I, too, was alone in NYC for New Year's Eve 1999, and as it happens I love a black olive and mushroom NY pizza. We could have hung out, not sharing our individual large pies!
I thank you for your prodigious output in 2024, every post was a keeper. I wish you a similarly productive 2025, we need your voice more than ever! All the best to you and your family.
Happy New year to you and yours, Stephen! Exordium and terminus indeed (or vice versa). I have so appreciated your commentary, laced with popular culture references to which I totally relate, from Dickens to Doctor Who. I look forward to your future posts.
Best wishes to you in the New Year, Stephen. There are going to be a lot of issues to cover, so I'll wish you this: Plenty of rest and strength to combat the insanity. We have seen what 2025 may be like in the last month. It's out signal to man the barricades, but to also leave an open door for some of the "good people" on the other side who will want to switch sides.
You've been doing great work, Stephen, and thanks for the recommendation - I've never seen "Notorious," so will try to watch today or tomorrow. It sounds like a great movie.
I have a new granddaughter to look forward to this year!
The Zager & Evans has been an earworm since I got up this morning. A commenter at Wonkette posted this video yesterday, and the scenes from "Metropolis" are perfect for the song:
In case no one else posted it, here is "In the Year 252525" from Futurama. You're welcome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE1drY3A418

Happy New Year to you and your family Stephen.
Thanks! You, as well.
You rock SER! I am glad and proud to be part of this community! Let's make 2025 weird in a good way!
I LOVE "Notorious"! It's so underrated, and hasnt been easily available until recently, I suspect because of rights issues or some such malarkey.
Happy New Year, Stephen!
You, as well!
Happy New Year to you SER! Thank you for all the great writing and of course starting this blog.
Also thanks for all the insight all the time!
Thanks. You, as well!
Happy New Year to all! I suspect it will be really chaotic. Buckle up!

Props for the In the Year 2525 reference. I think I had the 45 record.
You are a talented and insightful writer and due for recognition and rewards! Huzzah!
Happy New Year Stephen!
I like black olives and mushrooms on a pizza also.
I understand the feeling, things are going better for me personally and with my writing than ever before and yet the world is what it is.
Thank you for the work you do and best luck for an even better 2025.
Also I got that song reference!

I’m so glad you had a great year, Stephen!
Notorious has always been one of my favorite movies.
Also, thank you for “doing meaningful work for a receptive audience.” I appreciate your work, every day. ❤️
Now, onward and upward.
