I was saddened to learn last week that legendary activist Judy Gumbo had passed away. This year continues to devastate us. I was fortunate enough to have interviewed Judy when her memoir, Yippie Girl, came out in 2022 and in her honor, I am posting that interview in full.
Judy was a founding member of the Yippies, the Youth International Party, a 1960s counter culture and satirical anti-war group, along with fellow radicals Anita and Abbie Hoffman, Nancy Kurshan and Jerry Rubin, and her husband Stew Albert.
In 1972, the FBI described Judy as “the most vicious, the most anti-American, the most anti-establishment, and the most dangerous to the internal security of the United States.” She took on the FBI and won — putting an end to illegal wire tapping.
