I had no idea he was an actual Russian! Next you're going to tell me that Noel Harrison was one, too. It wasn't his fault that the Russian accent is the supreme comedy accent (was just rewatching Ian McShane trying one out in Coraline*). But the Star Trek II scene on Ceti Alpha VI makes grown men cry because Chekov was so little and gentle, so naturally he's the one that undergoes horrible insect torture. KHAAAAN! And that little stagger when Spock stands up...good movie if you're ever wondering if some close male friends has tear ducts. RIP, voyager. Thanks for being an essential part of a NON dystopean future for once.

*hope everyone enjoyed WIldwood more than I did. The puppets and the backdrops were superb, but that big all-critter Helm's Deep battle threw me out of it. It's like the problem with Narnia movies--when you have all these soldier animals going hand to hand, essentially what you're watching is animals getting hurt. Long, and unlike Bruno Colais's score for the far superior Coraline, the music went in one ear and out the other. If you want to watch a bunch of critters ganging up to combat a perceived evil, I'd recommend Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, which I think is a hugely enjoyable Halloween classic. I know I should take it easy on the superlatives, because now that Dave Eggers' memoir is 20 years or more old, internet hacks are resuscitating "A work of staggering genius." (At the bar: Oh, no, here comes that staggering genius again! "Hic, hi guys! Did I, did I (hic) tell ya about the unifed I mean unified field theory?")
