I'm 50, and all my life I've taken it as a given that I do in fact respect the office of the presidency

Turns out, that was dependent on the person holding the office ALSO respecting the office of the president

Whenever we GET Respect, we will GIVE Respect. Seems like the days of Respect are over and to offer it without any in return seems foolish. Trump is a flamethrower and if the Dems do not act fast, there won't be anymore Dems to counter him. Fight fire with fire. Where's the effen outrage?

The Washington Generals also offered more dignity than these supine Dems.

I will never understand this “respect the office” bs. As noted, he defiles the office every moment he occupies it. Is letting an unelected billionaire and his band of acne-scarred howler monkeys strip the government for parts “respecting the office”? Is allowing his minions to fire thousands of government workers, hiring some back with an ‘oops my bad’, and causing untold chaos and destruction not just here but around the world every goddamned day “respecting the office”? Is destroying international alliances of 80 years to keep fascism at bay because you have a crush on a loathsome dictator who also knows all your secrets “respecting the office”? Is using a vanishingly small demographic of trans people who have harmed no one as a scare tactic cudgel and DEI as a straw man that allows you and your minions to gut the Department of Education, and who knows what else, to better usher in a christofascist theocracy you neither understand nor care about as long as it keeps you in power and out of jail, “respecting the office”? Wake the fuck up Democrats! Civility is a weapon MAGA is using against you! Can’t you see that? We passed polite, respectful disagreement several exits back in 2016. If you don’t meet the moment with every tool at your disposal, who the fuck will?!

First they came for the socialists, and I didn't speak up because I am pretty sure they cost us the election.

Then they came for the Trades Unionists, and I ordered a badge online and changed my avi on Bluesky.

Then they came for the homosexuals, and I binged Randy Rainbow videos.

Then they came for the immigrants, and I held a ping pong paddle with "This Is NOT Normal" written on it behind the ICE agents as they beat them.

Then they came for me, and there were dozens to repost my meme about how Mango Mussolini was a fascist, and everyone got upvotes.

I'm a little less critical of the ways that Democrats chose to protest. The bigger problem to me is that they are not able to unify against fascism. A few Democrats with paddles looks silly. A few in pink looks like a fashion statement. But every Democrat wearing pink and holding up paddles would have at least been an effective statement.

Yelling "Lie" in unison to every Trump untruth would have been a better one. Or walking out en masse. Or not showing up and holding an alternative event.

But none of that would ever happen because the Democrats just aren't united against fascism.

I generally lean far left, but I'm actually glad Democrats disagree on a lot of issues. That's how democracy is supposed to work. However, they need to at least be able to agree that an unconstitutional fascist coup is a problem. The open corruption of trump is unacceptable. Selling out our country to the oligarchy is wrong. If Democrats can't even agree on that much, then it is not a party worth supporting and we need something new,

Read somewhere that the little protest paddles the Dems were holding looked like they were bidding at an auction of Fascism.

UPDATE: The House just voted to censure Al Green - and TEN Democrats voted with them. Smh

And Dems wonder why they are shedding Black voter support.

If Byron Donalds had heckled Biden during a SOTU, MAGA and the entire right-wing media ecosystem would've rallied behind him. If Dems had tried to censure him, not a single Republican would have assisted and almost every one would have condemned the effort on free speech grounds, etc. They likely would have even played up the racial angle (as they love making Democrats look like hypocrites).

BTW, ten (10) Democrats just now voted with the Republicans to censure Al Green. They are:

Ami Bera

Ed Case

Jim Costa

Laura Gillen

Jim Himes

Chrissy Houlahan

Marcy Kaptur

Jared Moskowitz

Marie Gluesenkamp Perez

Tom Suozzi

WTF has happened to Jared Moskowitz? Remember how he once made sport of razzing Jimmy Comer and Gym Jordan?

I'm quickly reaching the obvious conclusion that elected Democrats just don't care. That they are perfectly willing to accept theocratic fascism so long as they get to keep their sinecures and collect their paychecks.

They need to understand something... I don't care if they lose so long as they stood up and fought loudly.

I don't care about comity, decorum, or bipartisanship. I care about justice, equality, and mercy.

We need more Jasmine Crocketts and Maxwell Frosts. Al Green got thrown out and immediately had the press clamoring to talk to him. At least he did something. The Russian asset and Space Nazi are stealing our livelihoods and lives from us. The Democratic party should stop him, but the Republicans are also allowing him to. We elected them to work FOR US. SHAME ON ALL OF THEM FOR DOING NOTHING.

"The Washington Generals offered more formidable opposition." In the midst of all this madness and sadness I laughed hysterically when I read that line. Thanks for that!

The Democrats should have walked out en masse when Trump started talking. They had no other play. Their blather signifies how little use the vast majority of them will be as Trump completes his dismantling of our democracy.

Like I know Trump is a Russian agent, part of its mafia, so that's how I look at everything he does (and never disappointed), I'll now look at the Democrats the same way and not expect anything.
