It should shock no one just HOW limited the government the party of limited government seeks to create. They are struggling mightily to winnow it down to just one man, and he’s barely that. They are willing to curtail their own power to do it, in obeisance to an incandescently stupid piece of shit incapable of independent thought, reason or moral clarity. They are actively campaigning to be courtiers to a mad king.
I would vote for the wilted head of lettuce that outlasted Liz Truss over 45. A roadkill raccoon, a sprouted potato, a half melted Klondike bar, one of those flat pennies retrieved from the train tracks, a urinal cake, a mouse, a louse, probably not a Supreme Court spouse. And I felt that way BEFORE Project 2025!
This shouldn’t be hard. Because this shit is terrifying. The Democrats should promote Biden and Harris as a two-fer. Biden has surrounded himself with intelligent, capable, compassionate people who believe in government. We’d be absolutely fine no matter what toll his age has taken. Woodrow Wilson had a stroke in office, his wife Edith practically governed the remainder of his term and the public was none the wiser. I know how deeply rooted in the two party system and partisan this country has become. We are skidding headlong into exactly what the Founding Fathers railed against even as they doomed us all with the electoral college designed for the democracy that thought we could best handle, rather than the one we’d really want. The electoral college is quite literally our safety school and just as disappointing. Ruinous, even. It is beyond my comprehension how even the most unengaged, uninformed voters can look at that rancid pile of week-old rotting meat, with his cruelty, ignorance and blatant disregard for basic human decency and want to give him yet another bite at the apple. The Republicans are selling monarchic bullshit that was old when the tea hit the harbor and that is still not enough to get some people to vote Democratic? I just don’t understand it. I really don’t. You’d think the question of what it would take has been answered 1000 times over by now and yet …
The capacity of people to make the worst possible choices at any given time should never be underestimated.
Are there really that many people who are 'unsure' of what Trump and the Right wants at this point? I believe it is fair to assume that people voting for Trump want these things, at the very least because they think it will 'take the country back' from non-whites, LGBT, whoever it is they don't like, as Trumpism is a movement based on hate.
Contrast and compare RNC Draft Platform, Project 2025, and Agenda 47.
Their affiliations are deep, and across all sects of Trump's cult.
There is something for every Trumpett flavor, White Nationalism, Racism, Religious Persecution vs Religious Freedom, Isolationist, War Monger, he pretty much covers every contradictory semi-position from every grift.
One of the most striking differences Between Republicans and progressives, is that progressives never lie about who they are or back away from what they stand for even if what they stand for becomes 'inconvenient' at some point.. you don't even have to like progressives in order to at least acknowledge that they never misrepresent themselves or their views. In my opinion, that honesty is more than enough to endorse them. For better or worse the Internet has at least made it impossible for Republicans to flip-flop on their issues without being called out for it. People aren't being fooled by their backing away from the abortion issue. See Ohio, Kansas, Alabama, and now soon Arkansas for evidence
I got into it with some idiot who said that Project 2025 sounds good because he did some random searching, found a couple of points that appealed on a surface level but couldn’t be bothered to actually read even those points in full. Therein lies the problem. I suspect you could even find something that makes coffee enemas sound good if you didn’t actually read what it entails.
If you read how it's proponents put it, anything can sound positive. "Replace disloyal government workers with ones who will carry out the administration's goals"--sounds reasonable, on the surface! "Deport people who are here illegally"--why, they shouldn't be here, illegally! "Let the states decide abortion"--well, haven't the Democrats been telling us that democracy is good? Let democracy decide how each state regulates abortion!
The way they make it sound reasonable, is by tacitly suggesting that this is a power that could and would be used by both parties equally. Which is clearly not true. It's the same problem with the recent presidential immunity ruling. They knew damn well that no Democratic president Avail themselves to the new rules so to speak. They only created loopholes that only bad actors would ever use.
Somehow I got the message from the Dems. And there's Hillary being right again.
In the end I do think a number of people *know* what's there but they like it. Similar to the people who want the economic conditions of 2020 since they had cheap gas (because demand crashed).
I've also talked about ethnic cleansing and immigrants in camps with Project 2025. That's going to get very bloody.
Here's a major problem though - mass media just runs the flat out lie denials. President Klan Robe says "I don't know anything about Project 2025," the viewer then says, "Oh, Democrat said this but he said that." Without media willing to call out the truth it gets a lot harder for Democrats to convey the truth because we're screaming into the wind.
I guess sharing this article to the campaign could help? I don't know.
Sharing this article might help, but also, President Biden, his campaign, and Democrats in general, need to understand that the media is unreliable right now, because they are not operating in good faith. The media isn't interested in preserving democracy, telling the truth and calling out lies, they are interested in clicks and possibly actively helping trump win in November. Democrats should not be afraid to call out the media for not practicing journalism.
I can only imagine how qualified those 10k people recruited are for said “jobs”.
Also deporting “protesters”, which would include Hamas sympathizers and by extension Black Lives Matters supporters seems nebulous at best. Like, to where?
I mentioned it on Wonkette that it would be difficult to determine just WHERE they may want to return Black and Brown people.
The husband said it’s the thought police. How do you determine WHO is your target and just where they need to go back to when they are American citizens?
They really don’t know any place except Mexico for Brown people and Africa for Black people or even that Africa is a continent not a country.
And unlike his first administration which NEVER was able to fill all the vacant positions, this will be worse with less people and people who know absolutely nothing about their jobs.
Most really smart leaders know that you cannot do it all so you hire the ones who can and who are experts at it.
No experts to be stopgaps to Trumps power like his first go round.
One thing the "deporters" don't know and don't care to know is that a major difficulty of deporting someone is you cannot always tell what someone's country of origin is. You can't just dump them in Mexico because that's where they crossed from, as Mexico won't take them. And if you want to avoid people getting wrongly deported you need due process, which makes "quick deportations" impossible.
And this is the current issue (one of many) in that they need funding to process people but the GOP doesn’t want to spend the money to fix it but they’ll need to do just that to break it worse.
Yeah, look what DeSantis did in Florida. All of a sudden they didn’t have any workers because he was going to deport everyone so they just left. The construction industry was in horrible disarray. Your food’s gonna be a hell of a lot more expensive too. Never do they think of that.
I was chatting with my brother in law yesterday during a family gathering. We're of Mexican descent but our family has been in the United states for over 100 years. Other than my 80something parents, no one else in that room of about 20 people speaks Spanish. We have gay and trans family members, all of us are Democrats...I told my brother in law that every person in the room at that moment would be on the shit list.
“The ‘Defund The Police’ slogan terrified a lot of normal people … the goal was police reform and increased accountability”
Thank you, Stephen. It was a terrible slogan, and few picked it up as a rallying cry. “Reform the Police” would have resonated much more strongly and perhaps led to useful conversations about specifics to accomplish that. Ironically, implementation of true reform would require increased funding of the nation’s police departments, not “defunding.”
I couldn't believe people were defending that dumb slogan. If your slogan needs explanation, it's a bad slogan. I kept getting told "clearly we are not getting rid of policing" but that's exactly what "defund" means to anyone hearing it. Did we just decide to make Republicans' jobs easier?
It reminds me of that banner during the Iraq War that said "we will support our troops when they shoot their officers". Good fucking lord, people, sometimes I wonder whose side you're working for.
IIRC, “Defund the Police” sprang from dismay about the militarization of police depts. with expensive armored personnel carriers, assault rifles, etc. That’s a legitimate concern. (Except: why deny police assault rifles, when those weapons are widely available to the arms-bearing population and are sometimes used against cops? Should the citizenry be better armed than LEOs?)
But running around yelling “Defund the Police” and “ACAB” (All Cops Are Bad) is the jejune* behavior of spoiled brats, and no one can take them seriously.
[*’jejune’ is a word that should be used more often, especially these days, when there’s so much jejunery going on]
"Demilitarize the police" makes more sense than "defund the police". But even then, it's not really related to the issue of police abuse--police can abuse just fine even if they lacked military equipment (or funding in general--it's not like underfunded cities and towns have much less abusive police forces!). The central issue of making police more accountable and less predatory calls for reform, and yet "reform" just didn't sound edgy enough so "defund" was born.
Yes, "demilitarize" is less contentious than reform (as the police would spin that as a lack of faith or assertion that they are all corrupt), and it puts them on the defensive to explain why that's bad.
But why do that? It might convince people we want to reform the way the police operate! And that won't shock and awe the average voter, which is apparently what we want to do.
Democrats seem to be campaigning as though they assume all voters are just as tuned-in as their closest, well-read friends. "Defund the police? Surely people will understand we mean focus a lot of non-police resources to handle non-police issues, while the cops still handle actual crime" "Black Lives Matter--surely people know we mean 'black lives also matter' and won't listen to people misleadingly suggesting we think other lives don't matter".
"Google Project 2025"? Good lord. You'll notice Republicans didn't just say "Google Green New Deal, surely once you see what its proponents are saying about it you'll leap to the conclusion that they want to ban hamburgers." They just said "the Squad wants to ban hamburgers, and Joe Biden will let them!"
Focus on the weirdest, most extreme shit that will affect the average voter's life--like the divorce ban mentioned above, or consumer taxes (also known as tariffs) making up for tax cuts for the rich, or social security cuts--and hammer those home until every time people think of Project 2025 they will associate it with those things. NO ONE IS GOING TO READ THE ACTUAL DOCUMENT AND DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO. TELL THEM WHY IT IS EXTREME, WEIRD, and BAD NEWS.
Good lord, these are political operatives who are paid to do this, and this is what they come up with.
Even my closest well read friends don't know the ins and outs of Project 2025. I had to tell my REPUBLICAN friend to look it up. When I told her it was part of the Heritage Foundation she said "well, I'm not reading it!" She didn't know they were a conservative think tank. I'm a little concerned she read it and thought "works for me".
Democrats have to learn that most people just don't have the time or interest to do a deep dive, and often when they do they read conflicting media accounts that muddle it.
You win when you distil it down to a bite size chunk, that hits home. "Republicans plan Medicare cuts to fund tax giveaway for the rich". "Republicans to ban abortion, making miscarriages cause for criminal investigation." "Republicans will make rape victims carry their rapists' babies."
What gets me is Democrats often complain that the media frames things in a pro-GOP manner, then when you see Democrats' own messaging, it's just as bad as the media framing.
That’s easy.
They want to replace the constitution with ‘project 2025’.
It should shock no one just HOW limited the government the party of limited government seeks to create. They are struggling mightily to winnow it down to just one man, and he’s barely that. Usually the answer to your question involves "camps" and then "liquidation"
They've already started with the RNC, firing all the existing people and only hiring those that pass the 'loyalty test'
