Democrats should consider the advice to keep it simple and make their attacks complement one another. “Republicans are making your life worse.” Everything flows into that—cutting essential services, helping scammers rip you off, opposing anything that makes your life better, driving up inflation and interest rates, increasing job losses. All of it is connected to “making your life worse.” (And to those saying “well what positive thing can Dems say about themselves” try “Democrats are making your life better.”)

Forget hypocrisy, no one cares if you dont stick to principles. They also don’t care if you have principles. They care if you make their life better or worse. Focus your message on that continuum, stick to that basic theme, say nothing in 1000 words that can be said in 100.

I will never understand the desire to control someone else. Literally, as long as they aren't hurting anyone, why on earth bother?

Of course the whole “DEMOCRATS ARE WAGING A WAR ON CHRISTIANS!” thing was always pure bullshit, but maybe “REPUBLICANS ARE WAGING A WAR ON AMERICA(NS)!” will gain similar traction. Plus, it has the benefit of actually being true.

If the Democrats can't manage to craft a consistent message attacking and exposing Stupid Hitler's many, many, many idiotic and bad-for-the-US actions, then they deserve to lose. There should be top Dems standing in front of a camera EVERY day stating simple facts over and over.

1) Republicans are lying to you!

2) Republicans only care about the rich!

3) Republicans are ruining your healthcare!

4) Republicans are making the prices of your food go up and up!

5) Republicans are killing jobs for working people!

Forget about explaining the nuances of policy, and start trying to control the narrative.

I agree with 99.9% of what you say here.

But I think it is time stop with the misinformation about what new sport regulations will mean for trans kids. It is not accurate to state that trans kids will be banned altogether from participating in sports. No. Transgirls or those “assigned” male at birth* will still be allowed to participate in boys sporting teams. Transboys (AFABs) can participate in girls sporting teams - if they are not doping as defined by the major sports authorities such as FINA or USA Swimming - i.e. taking T. (See, e.g., East German women’s Olympic swim team 1976.) But we don’t hear much about transboys anyway - no one cares really because there is not much of an uneven playing field there - so transboys are often welcome on boys’ sports teams with little controversy.

So called progressives need to re-acquaint themselves with science and reality.

*It is inaccurate and misleading to say sex is assigned at birth - rather (to the extent possible) it is observed.

Yeah, my dudes, I guess I am a TERF or whatever. Don’t bother with the death threats- I have a glioblastoma (terminal brain cancer) so soon enough, soon enough.

Death threats? Do you think we're MAGA?

What death threats? Why would anyone here threaten you for disagreeing with you? You seem to have us confused with maga.

Sorry about your terminal brain cancer.

As for trans kids not participating in sports, they won't be able to participate as who they are. What you have posted - they will be able to participate as who OTHERS want them to be. That's a big difference. And it's possible that they won't even be able to then, as the bigots have ramped up the hate against trans so much, that they will be run off any team they try to join.

Yes! It’s similar to the argument against marriage equality, that gay people are free to get married as long as it’s to the opposite sex.

We should probably think about the incentive structure that rewards Republicans for deficit peacocking as every Republican administration destroys that. I think part of the problem is that the horrible household finance analogy also caught on. And it's nonsensical because the general way Republicans approach deficit is to cut incoming receipts (taxes). So using their stupid household finance analogy, to make sure you can afford what's needed in your house you should try to cut your pay. Or just give the money to billionaires.

A-fucking-men! Dems keep accepting the maga narratives when "attacking" them. Dems should reframe narratives as you and Myra Donnelley suggest. There may be other ways, but at the moment, I can't think of any.

The very big problem with reframing narratives is that rightwingers have a vast rightwing media human centipede, inclusive not only of access-dependent glorified gossip columnists in the MSM but umpteen million podcasters and even Internet trolls. And it is a lean, mean, Democratic-destroying machine. We saw also how it works in the 2024 election...but not just against Democrats. Also an important component is that a large number of elected Republicans are only in office to be social media influencers. 99% of them do not do anything involving legislation...they are there to spread propaganda.

It was also effective in spreading blood libel and that's one of the most awful things. I find what happened to the innocent Haitian-Americans in Springfield instructive, and the public wanted to believe the lies told about them despite the Democrats telling people the truth. Even the Republican governor of Ohio could only offer mealy-mouthed (if that) response about it. That is also the power of sadopopulism. Many people voted to get rid of the immigrants, especially the Haitians.

In the end if there's a high demand for hurting and eliminating people who are different, there ISN'T a policy message or even a moral message that counters that if this is what Americans want. There's no "Democratic messaging" when you are in the position of Republicans saying "these people shouldn't exist in America" and Democrats are saying "Yes they should."

Can't thumbs up this enough^^^

Exactly right. Its ALL about demand side economics....The RW hate machine is simply giving the American people what they WANT (which does not speak well of the American people). Hate, fear, division. They don't WANT what WE'RE selling and no change in sales pitch is going to change that.

There is no way around this sad fact. If people didn't WANT what FOX et al were selling Fox et all LITERALLY would not exist

It won’t be easy, that’s for sure, but some progressives have stepped up - they have podcasts and YouTube channels, that are doing very well. Legacy media is becoming less relevant, and it’s their own fault.

I think so too but we have to be prepared for the fact that a lot of people are willing to burn their own houses down as long as the minorities they hate suffer more. There are people in Kerr County, Texas who made sure federal grants for disaster warning systems were stifled because they didn't want Joe Biden to have some imaginary control over their unreconstructed community. Because Joe Biden helped those minorities they hate.
