Hey, Dems--maybe side with The Press next time.

It's even worse - Dems are viewed not merely as out-of-touch elites, but as FECKLESS out-of-touch elites.

"Democrats fundamentally don’t understand why their brand has suffered the most among demos that once supported them in large numbers.

It’s because they come across as out-of-touch elites, and well-off members of the same country club hanging out in the name of “bipartisanship” doesn’t inspire anyone except maybe their donors."

GOP Legislator: “Hi, I’m cool with defending a president who took numerous unexplained trips to Child Rape Island.”

Democratic Legislator: “Surely we can see past these differences and still be friends! Oh that reminds me, I have to send out another email to the suckers asking them for money so u can fight to save democracy.”

Flush them all.

Sorry you brain dead Democrats, but yes you absolutely can hate these people because they’re not just cruel, they’re using that cruelty to hurt and kill millions of people you have a damn duty to protect. What the serious fuck is wrong with you people?

Normally I’d say Republican corruption and extremism would mean a huge Dem sweep next midterm but I don’t know—the vast swath of voters hate Republicans but also despise Democrats for being so weak and pathetic. Turnout could really be a dud.

At this point throw out the bunch of them. They’re useless.

[Democrats fundamentally don’t understand why their brand has suffered the most among demos that once supported them in large numbers.]

Because they're happy being the out of power party that is collecting donations and paychecks and enjoying the lavish benefits and perks of their offices?

Because we all know that they would sell us out to the jackals in an instant if it meant positive media cycles?

Because they have no vision?

Because they have no fight?

Because they have the passion of a blobfish?

Because they have to take a dozen polls and have focus groups before they can tell me what their official position is on an issue?

Because even when they control the government, they seem more concerned about making billionaires happy than helping people afford housing and food?

Because they fail to understand that being Nice does not equal being good and kind and those 'Nice" Republican colleagues are wicked and malicious motherfuckers?

Because if I were to lead an army of Democratic leaders into a battle, a third of them would hold committee meetings to debate every decision I made, a third of them would shoot one another in a circular firing squad, and a third of them would wonder if we're being too confrontational bringing our weapons to engage the enemy?

Doesn't any democrat know how to play this game?

We're so fucked.

I actually wonder what the ideological composition of the 17 congressional leaders is.

That said, I wonder—in a group dynamics context—how that would play out where you don't get the incentive to say "I hate every single one of you in your party" without consequence. Because I do notice that blood libel against Democrats is generally OK. But every single time someone said something like, "Oh, the Republican Agenda is killing people! Project 2025 is killing people," you had folks getting all the clout from telling Democrats they're "making it up." I am curious to see how much coverage, say, Jasmine Crockett is getting right now. She's presumably saying Republicans are all awful?

After all since the rank-and-file Dems don't care about policy, there's really no point for Democrats to be there. Dems were happy to throw it all away in 2024.

Nevertheless I am curious about how this kind of dynamic plays out. How many people here have been able to eliminate all Republicans from their life or stop interacting at work?

I’ve cut off Trump supporters. I have no problem being friends with conservatives, but I draw the line at those who support fascists and rapists because if we were suddenly attacked by fascists and rapists the Trumper might get confused and vote for our attackers. Of course a Democrat might try to empathize with them so maybe we’re just fucked as a society.

But I will note that there is a huge opening in politics for someone who can display real fight. And most voters will favor that over any policy or character differences.

Well, Andrew Cuomo is one such example, it seems. So is Gavin Newsom apparently. I mean, Sherrod Brown was a fighter. I feel like there’s something people value more. But you know what? I think it’s time for the Internet Faves to show us the way.

Was Cuomo? Far as I could tell he caved to Republicans in a state Dems should have dominated. I do like that Newsom is ready to hit back on gerrymandering (though as Eli Wallach said in that movie, “don’t talk, just shoot”) but if he really does strike hard, I wouldn’t count him out.

What’s needed is someone who, when they speak of Republicans, dispense with all decorum and talk like the public would if they had the microphone. I have not seen that yet in a major pol (though some do, occasionally, wander into that before slinking back to “safe mode”).

Cuomo and Newsom are opportunists who eagerly cave under pressure.

Yeah—right now we just don’t have a real fighter in the wings. Until one emerges, lots of voters will be left on the table because they’ll just check out.

I mean I’m about as reliable a voter as there ever was—never missed even a midterm—and I feel like checking out in disgust. What does this say for less reliable voters?

I can only speak for myself, but I long ago stopped donating to any national Democratic group, because too often I saw how they used that collective cash to support the most "mainstream" Democrats and deny support to the most progressive ones. I saw them allow themselves to be moved more and more to the right to attempt to appeal to voters who were not their own, longtime base of voters.

I do however, send donations directly to Democrats who will stand up and strongly advance truly Democratic principles, who will take a stand and take the heat for it.

The whole idea of Congressional comity and collegiality is now, and has always been, nonsense. You can't play nice with people who are willing to separate children from parents, or create a masked, secret police force. Or bomb innocent people for show. Or who enthusiastically support a convicted sex offender. Or attack the powerless to score political points. Or sneer at the Constitutional principles that underpin civil society. Or lie so disgustingly shamelessly.

Enough!

Yes, you're right that the good press would come from skipping the game- as no-shows, too, not giving a heads up beforehand. Working a food bank, delivering meals, doing outreach work at youth homes, libraries or *gasp* on the goddamed streets where people sleep.

It brings me no joy to say- The Democratic Party is drowning themselves in the center. If they don’t start advancing the progressive policies the people actually need, they’ll die out before MAGA does.

BrandoG's avatar

It’s not even really the Center. It’s this establishment blob that somehow thinks being weak shit in the face of evil is a winning plan. Even a lot of the “liberals” fall into this mindset.

Toss them all. We need fighters.

Agreed, and it's not just what the people need, but what they want. Poll after poll shows that progressive policies are popular.
