You nailed exactly why this show upset me so at the time, and also why I don’t watch the daily show anymore unless it’s Desi- this stuff is important, and if TDS doesn’t think it is, and doesn’t respect those who do, they should find something else to talk about.
Yes. This piece he did on Palestine was spot on, especially his point about the American government giving weapons money with no conditions, and then their only response to genocide being "use them more precisely." As an airman recently pointed it, military tech shows exactly who is in a house. They can tell when it is filled with women and children. How dare you conflate morality with nihilism.
Amen. I couldn’t sleep after John Stewart’s show. It was a replay of New York Times headlines with zero critique. After stupid and minimizing bath guys are old guys jokes, he concluded: if your guy loses, bad things might happen but country is not over. WTF Jon. That was the same attitude in 2016 that resulted in 3 extremist supreme court justices being appointed and 33% of American women losing access to abortion over night. Bc lives are literally at stake once again in 2024, millions of Americans are working hard to make sure democracy wins and we have no time for the white rich men like Stewart, Maher, Silver and Klein who have the enormous privilege of playing both sides and sowing voter apathy.
The one I’m still sad about is Larry Wilmore who is a thoughtful all around great guy- he’s mentored half of the Black journalists who’ve come up the ladder, such a generous host. He had a depth of non-white panelist on The Late Show having interesting diverse perspectives. And he was cancelled August 2016 as a harbinger of the racist fascist horror show to come. I feel like if I could have a conversation with him- his understanding of things would be mind blowing in a good way.
Two choices for president. One is a rapist fraudster who attempted a coup of his own country’s government. One is an accused rapist who’s funding and backing a genocidal regime currently committing ethnic cleansing (with taxpayer money that could be spent on healthcare etc).
Yay, democracy. Western capitalist imperialism is a cruel joke.
I'll probably get a lot of hate thrown at me, but I'm okay with that. My statements are not intended to Biden bash. I'm wondering if Jon feels the same as I do. The thought of another term of Combover Caligula keeps me in panic mode all the time. I'm not sure the country would survive, nor the world, with the atrocious SCOTUS taking up space in a nice building they don't deserve to be in. Another Trump term would be disastrous. That said, I'm so disappointed the Democrats couldn't run someone better than Biden. They should have seen the lack of excitement, and a bit of anger, that goes with Biden coming. I've been a fan of Jon Stewarts and could relate to what he said his first show back in the chair. It felt like he was frustrated. So am I. Okay, let the hate fly. I'm just making an observation.
No hate, and Biden is the opposite of exciting, plus he’s always made gaffes, and it makes me cringe for him. But who’s ready for the job and has a record of beating Trump? I wish he were younger, but otherwise I’ve been mostly happy with what he’s done, given the circumstances. I do wish he would address the nation with his thinking on Gaza, though, because it seems so wrong.
I was so looking forward to his broadcast on the Daily Show, but very disappointed. As soon as he started with the two sides I got that feeling in the pit of my stomach. It was not a funny show. And from what I understand he will be a producer of the show if this is going to be the norm I’ll pass.
What a scumbag Jon is. Both sides-ism just like T****called the Neo Nazis in Charlottesville. Jon can fuck off and die in obscurity if he thinks four more years of Don the Con fascist rapist piece of shit is good for our country.
Once Biden has been re-elected, a safe house Dem majority, a 2/3 senate Dem majority, have legalized abortion, equality for women and LGBTQ, banned semi-auto rifles, and legalized marijuana, ONLY THEN should Stewart think about spouting off on the “Dems and Reps are two sides of the same coin nonsense. Until then, he needs to be fully liberal partisan.

No, we don't.
Yes, because most Americans don't vote, and someone needs to represent their nihilism
Yes.

I really liked him too...
I freaking love your wish that Leslie Jones host The Daily Show. Yes! 🙌

We had an "exciting" president.
And he kept us all watching him every moment of every day worried about what stupid thing he was going to do next.
Then he got 1M Americans killed because he couldn't follow a GD playbook.
I don't need excitement. I need nice quiet competency - the more boring the better.
Which is how the largest infrastructure bill in two generations got passed.
Amen Bridget!

I don’t want any hate coming your way. I appreciate your perspective and hope you’ll continue providing it here.

No.
Yes. Direct perception might look like nihilism but no point imagining a rosy glow around reality.

No or SNL
