Standing outside USAID headquarters may be an act of desperation, but I'm all for it. They need to send the message that this is not normal. They need to lead the public in opposition to this fascist takeover of our government. Don't let the media or the public believe this is all normal. I'm really glad to see them growing a spine, even if it is performative.
Setting aside the medium, I loved Walz's xit. Trump is a small man who is easily manipulated. He does respond to ridicule. Goad them into fighting each other. The "weird" campaign was very effective. It drove the right nuts, and I have no idea why the Harris/Walz campaign steered away from it. I know a lot of magats, and ridicule is one of the few things that can actually affect them. Make them feel embarrassed. Make their followers feel embarrassed. It's the only way to get through to them.
Look at me defending Democratic Party leadership. I feel strange.
Oh, this is all just too depressing to digest today...isn't there ANYTHING that can be done to stop musk and trump? Aren't there ANY Republicans who still have a spine, who remember their sworn oaths to the Constitution and not a king? I'm feeling nauseated and have to lie down...
There's certainly something, but it would make the ride a whole lot bumpier. Let's just say the folks wearing Mario Bros. hats at the protest probably aren't just Nintendo fans.
This is what you get when you have a criminal executive branch and a captive Congressional majority that has abrogated the power of the purse (and the judicial branch MAY be able to nibble away at this, but the ultimate power is in the captive 6-3 Supreme Court).
There are lawsuits winding their way through now about the illegal autocoup by Apartheid Clyde, but not only are those slow, they're banking on it being slow. They can do their damage and then here's the important part:
Because they are the representatives—elected or otherwise—of those who have always had rights in America, they're going to have wide deference in the legal system. Remember how President Klan Robe gets unlimited delays and appeals? And there's always some landmine in the judiciary to give just the right arcane break for him. So I would not expect much in the way of consequences given the capture of the executive branch and its important law enforcement role.
Americans handing over law enforcement to crooks pretty much is a way to legitimize crime.
Our thin delusion that we live in a nation of laws has been laid bare. It has always been the case that there is a two tiered system of justice-one for the rich and one for the poor. Now we can see that the idea that we share a belief in a form of democracy has also been laid bare. The very thin veil of civilization has been pulled back to reveal that there are no rules, but simply power.
We as a society have granted full access to power to a group of narcissists and sociopaths and grifters that are no longer constrained by laws or norms or fear of reprisal. There is no good way for this to end, short of short term disaster and long term pain.
This is full alarm time. It’s no longer “what he might do if elected” but rather he did get elected and is doing it” (Trump owns all of this). So what do you do if a fascist cabal takes over your government? You shut everything down, campuses, local, state and federal government buildings, everything—block the streets, get to every legislator of both parties and use every bullhorn you have.
If this stands, then it’s over. There won’t be further legitimate elections because if they vacant do this, they can screw with the ballots.
True! Seeing the ease with which they got into supposedly secure federal servers, why is it not likely they did the same in swing states’ voting tabulations?
Musk isn't an elected official or confirmed by the Senate. He's a private citizen accessing highly confidential information that could easily be given to our enemies. If any other private citizen did this they would be prosecuted and thrown in jail.
Musk the dictator, pulling the strings of the felon in charge. The felon is not smart enough to write the executive orders. He just gets out his “sharpie” and scribbles his name.
Ask your Representatives why unelected oligarch Elon Musk is entitled to know your Social Security number? Call your senator NOW! 👇

Always love your astute observations illustrated with movie plot lines. In the same vein, I can only see for the future that There Will Be Blood.
I like the “appears to be illegal” from the WaPo.
The deference the media gives that man is just mind blowing.
I saw Not one headline last year that said, “Joe Biden appears to be too old”.

🤣🤭
It was reading The Hobbit that I came across the phrase "Out of the frying pan, into the fire.'
Arresting Elon is really the only way out. So, then, we will need to be prepared to run through the fire.
Support the things, places and people you love. Take good care of yourself.
Solidarity.
Thanks to you people who couldn't vote for Harris because she didn't get you a pony, we now have the Two Beasts from Revelation running the country.
Yep. Things are sure looking up for Palestinians in Gaza under Trump.

More people need to know.
Seems like we’re sleepwalking.
“It no longer serves the rule of law. It doesn’t even actually sell olive oil. That’s just a front.”
That’s about the size of it. Oh and yes also, Chuck Schumer, while you’re out there cosplaying as a defender of democracy: “Free Tibet!”
