Multi-talented actor Eliza Jane Schneider (Beakman’s World, South Park, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) will perform her award-winning solo show Freedom of Speech on January 6 at Portland, Oregon’s Alberta Abbey. The date is not coincidental: The anniversary of a violent insurrection and attack on democracy itself seems a fitting time for a comprehensive dialogue promoting inclusivity.
Schneider plays 34 different characters in her solo show, and they reflect real people with unique perspectives. If there is truly an “American dream,” it’s diversity and understanding.
Doors open for the event at 7 pm and you can pick up tickets here. Afterward, I’ll moderate a panel discussion with the following exciting guests:
Joe Bazeghi, Director of Engagement of Recovery Works NW, treating substance use recovery and wellness.
Jefferson Smith, host of the Democracy Nerd podcast and former Oregon state lawmaker
Andy Miller, Executive Director of Our Just Future, contributing their expertise in democracy, community development, and poverty alleviation.
Norman Turrill, President, Governance Coordinator of League of Women’s Voters LWV of Oregon.
This performance and panel will be recorded with a live studio audience for Schneider’s upcoming Freedom of Speech podcast, which whisks you off “around the world into the hearts and kitchenettes of the thousands of people [she’s] interviewed around the world (and geek out on their unique dialects).”
Here’s my recent interview with Eliza Jane Schneider. It’s one of my favorites.

Don't have an hour just now, but I'll be listening to the podcast with Eliza soon. Sounds like a good show, I'm sorry to miss it.
I'll see you there, SER.
