"Incidents like this remind you how nice it is to have a president who’s not a deranged psychopath"

Deranged psychopath citizens vote for deranged psychopath presidents. A very large portion of the USA electorate are (apparently) deranged psychopaths.

Hmmm.... well yes, that makes sense, given the events of the last 10 years or so.

I've learned something - I don't care how "sane" you think you are, hang out with deranged psychopaths and you'll become one. Mental illness is very much a contagious disease.

I guess blaming the LGBT community is reserved for natural disasters

Nope calling for Secretary Pete’s resignation is all about homophobia.

How would Nancy Mace know what was in the infrastructure bill? She voted against it.

These people really are sick in the head or soul or heart... all of the above...

The fact that some of them have a great deal of power is troubling to say the least.

When Occams Razor is far too sharp for these people they look for others to blame.

C’mon people. Why report truthfully on a horrible tragic accident when you can use scare tactics to freak your base into submitting to your every lie? Plus bonus points for racist dog whistles!

I need a shower after reading the drivel those pieces of shit pinched out about the Key Bridge disaster.

I tell you what, it really matters who is in charge. I feel relief seeing a competent administration filled with people who actually care. Given that this is a deep blue city in a blue state, I was thinking there at least wouldn't be politics like with the East Palestine train accident. But no there is the right wing's absolute bullshit, and not even the kind of accident that would warrant the Secretary of Transportation to come to it. AND nobody died.

I don't expect any better from Marjorie Three Names; she's doing what her unreconstructed brethren in her unreconstructed, gerrymandered fiefdom elected her to do. But Nancy Mace in here again?

She definitely wrests the crown of Biggest Fake in Congress from Elise Stefanik. I REFUSE to believe this assclown actually believes what she says.

There are cavernous, ice-cold pits where the souls and hearts of these assholes should be. Every calamity is an opportunity for them to throw out their shibboleths, forged in the fires of their rightwing media human centipede.

And there's yet another angle to bring up, kinda orthogonal to this wonderful post. But Baltimore is the nation's leading car handling port and there's all manner of vessels tied up in the harbor. This is probably going to cause some supply chain disruption. Mayor Pete, in the press conference, talked about a freight office that was "recently stood up" so I am hoping that this is going to ease some of the pain. The major portion of the port is going to be blocked for weeks (thankfully there is one terminal seaward of the bridge).

But again it really matters who is in office. I'm glad there's a team of serious governing officials who are going to work together. And my heart grieves for the family of those workers who were just out there doing their thankless job.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the night shift on road repair is statistically more dangerous than being a cop even without one in a million freak ship collisions. Those immigrant men who lost their lives were the backbone of the local economy, working in the middle of the night so that the privileged class doesn’t have to be inconvenienced by their labor.

The shame of this country's electorate is that we have one president who reacts to disasters like a responsible grown-up, with competent action and compassion, while his challenger always--without exception--reacted with the dull unfeeling of a psychopath, and would spout on some nonsense unrelated to anything at hand, and then go out of his way to malign anyone he saw as politically expendable--and our voters are giving each about an equal chance of winning this year.

We have met the shit-hole, and it is us.

Just as designed by the Constitution! As always the slaveowner planter class (and their heirs apparent) holding us back.

Small donor giving to Trump in the most recent quarter is off 69% compared to 4 years ago. Just saying.

Yeah--my faith in this country will be restored if Trump is beaten badly, Goldwater-style.

In today's climate, I'll settle for soundly beaten.

Goldwater only won in the rump Confederacy, which has now expanded to consume half the country...it is a straight line from Tricky Dick Nixon and his Southern Strategy, via Ronnie Ray-Gun, Newt's Contract On America, through todays MAGA horde and J6.

(Goldwater won his home state of Arizona by a paltry number of votes, aided by Republican voter supression via Operation Eagle Eye

Sound familiar? History may not repeat but it sure as hell rhymes sometimes.)

it will be a long time, if ever (in my lifetime) when a US Presidential candidate scores a victory like LBJ's.

That might restore my faith. These Aholes have always been there but never before have they had a spineless major political party genuflect to them. Even when PAB loses again the GOP political party, or what remains of it, is a huge problem. Sigh.

When you have nothing to run on as a party, this is what you do. Blame. You can't brag about your accomplishments and how much you have improved things when you haven't done squat; so you throw mud at everyone else and hope it sticks. Those workers on the bridge at 1 am, in the cold, fixing potholes, lost their lives and will not be going home to their young families. I haven't heard any concern for them from the right. They were immigrants. When will the rest of us wake up are realize that none of us are any consequence to them? We are all just so much canon fodder. Tell us GOP, what did you do for our infrastructure? I seem to recall that Trump had multiple infrastructure weeks, but did nothing other than announce them. Until they stop lying and start governing, and do something positive for us, they should just STFU and stand aside. They just make everything worse, because most of them care about themselves and their bank accounts first.

According to the Wikipedia page for the MV Dali, it has a deadweight tonnage capacity of 116,851. I want to know what bridge could withstand the impact of that much mass striking it because apparently the Key Bridge should have magically been able to stay standing.

Yeah, no. Bridges aren't built to withstand that kind of impact.

It is depressing how right wingers cannot even for a moment just react to a tragic disaster like a human being would. No "wow, what a scary thing to happen, I hope they rescue all the survivors" or something like that. They just always have to be "on", that's what their right wing ecosystem demands--assholery 24/7, if you let up on that you're left in the dust. I'm just surprised Nancy Mace didn't say "as a rape victim, how dare this bridge crash try to shame me, as a rape victim, with its DEI woke crashing".

The fact that the ship's crew was able to get a warning off tells us the accident was most likely a mechanical error, and an investigation will surely bear that out. But I'll bet a doughnut that we won't be seeing any apologies from these rotting pustules for having made such idiotic and offensive conclusions within hours of the tragedy.

Besides, Dunning-Kruger effect necessitates that you never back down, never admit wrong! And their rightwing media human centipede ensures that they never have to!

Just imagine if a Democratic voice on Twitter maligned that mayor of East Palestine, whose classlessness really just makes me not want to google his name, in the way these assholes felt comfortable maligning Brandon Scott. It was a visceral feeling inside me, reading what they said.

You mischaracterize Kruger and Dunning’s study. After they identified the students who thought they’d done well but had actually done poorly (unaware of their deficiencies), they went over the material and the students’ mistakes. On retesting, students did much better because they were capable of learning. The message was that teachers should use poor test results as an opportunity to improve those students, not penalize them. OTOH, hate-filled fascists have no desire to have their bigoted lies corrected, because that bigotry is who they are. Call it the Hitler-Putin Effect.

Their whole attack on Mayor Scott is...he's a young black guy. That's literally it! They're not even trying to hide their bigotry anymore.
