My wife and I live in South Sacramento. We raised our kids here. They and their families still live in the city, and we are all of us all the way down for the election of Mai Vang. She shows up! She’s been terrific. Vote Mai!
I follow @Jess Piper, who covers Missouri and neighboring states and talks about leaving no seat unchallenged. It's so interesting to see how this cuts both ways, ie, in both "safe" red and blue districts. Like, if people have any choice, should we really be that surprised when they *act* like they don't have any choice?
I really like the idea of someone simply playing the role of 'icebreaker'...Intrenched politicians understandably seem to be an insurmountable obstacle but they're not. Erica Lee represents the kind of 'egoless' people we need in politics right now. A true civic patriot!
Good luck to Mai Vang! We need more people like her in Congress. As for Matsui, and others like her, they need to go, or at least grow a spine and resist the fascists running the country into the ground.
I think this is going to be the next big issue coming up-how to get people who aren't cranks and loons to run for office AND to participate in actually choosing candidates? The primary system is a clear failure at this point, degenerated into a freak show designed to appeal to only the extreme voters in either side. This then results in the election of people who don't come close to representing their constituents and in some cases are frankly nutty. I truly believe we'll get through this-we made it through a civil war and shattering depression, after all-but we will need a fish eyed look at every single one of our processes to get to some semblance of sane governance that isn't, you know, killing it's own citizens in the streets.

This is the way! She stepped in, did it herself, but then had the self awareness to step aside and support a better candidate.
