So bizarre and gross. And your perfectly accurate description of women removing our uncomfortable shoes and dancing to Jump Around at wedding receptions cracked me up.

I am reminded of Douglas Adams’ brilliant takedown of the absurdity of the wealthy in an aside in Hitchhiker’s Guide about Antarean Parakeet Glands

"The heels are probably the most durable part of your feet. Few people complain about stubbing their heel, and those who do are whiners."

Yeah, until you step on a goats head (natures caltrop, literally: "Tribulus terrestris is an annual plant in the caltrop family (Zygophyllaceae) widely distributed around the world" ) and embed it into your heel.

Rivals Lego for instant pain!

Next up Chanel ski gloves that only cover your wrist.

Despite everything I know about communism and its many failures, shit like this makes me want to hoist a red flag and start lining capitalists up against the wall.

She should have worn Crocs....

When you mentioned something about going barefoot at home, I thought of Legos. Since I live alone, and don't have any Legos, I don't have to worry about stepping on one. My grandson loves Legos, and has many, so when I visit him, I know better than to go around the house barefoot.

I have neuropathy, so shoes are uncomfortable. I wear the lightest sandals I can find, which are Tevas brand. Rest assured though, as soon as I get home, I kick them off. Also alone (with my cat) so whatever messes I might encounter with my bare feet are our own fault(s).

I do have a pair of those minimalist/‘barefoot’ running shoes (very thin not very compressible soles, very light construction overall). I like them okay, do wear them occasionally (though, really, I don’t run much, occasionally use them in the gym—I get tonnes of cardio, thanks, but am kinda protective of my joints—running at my age seems to me inadvisable). The minimals feel very stable to me versus more padded ones I always worry about rolling an ankle in, especially when fatigued.

No shoes? Half shoes? Yeah, that seems… unwise. Trying to work out if like there was some weird wartime ration where you only could cover half your feet if it actually would be the heel I’d pick. Yeah it’s usually relatively tough but it also takes weight pretty directly. Seriously, tho, overall, this just seems to me a very bad idea.

Apart from, I dunno, those don’t look at all good to me. Like something out of some early industrial age bleak Dickens thing or something. The shame of the cities. The actresses toiling in the sweatshops. With patches of cork tied to their feet.

I’ve recently read that Gen Z are keen on wearing socks with sandals — because, honestly, no one wants to see your toes in public, it’s not like we’re Hobbits with adorable toes. I will keep my toes private, TYVM, and I love wearing socks with sandals. It’s an evergreen fashion choice, comparable to Levi’s 501s & Ray-Ban shades.

Just as long as they're not Ray-Ban Meta Pervert shades...

Just plain Ray-Bans 😎

Clearly you poor simpletons don't understand couture! Shoes are obviously wearable art for your awful, ugly feet, and as such do not need to perform the boring function of protection. Instead, they invite us to stare with admiration and envy at anyone who can afford $1500 to acquire these anti-shoes, with even more admiration for those who wear them in public.

All I can think is that a fool and her money are soon parted. If you’re stupid enough to buy these have at it. We can all use a laugh.

Next. Pants with no crotch. A bra with just the straps. Attention seeking behaviour - they just think it’s so hilarious and we’re all just following along at the absurd

I almost lost my leg from blood poisoning after stepping on something in the yard. At 9 years old, it would have been devastating. Sepsis moves fast. It was up to to my knee the next morning when my mom took me to the doctor.

I have rarely gone without shoes ever since, because even in your house your floors are gross.

Reminds me of a non-shoe we had to wear in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar, but ours were little strips of leather that ptotected the sole of the fore foot.

I totally appreciate your appeal to buy shoes for those that need them.

This org is partnered with retailers and also accepts gently used shoeshttps://soles4souls.org/

The soup kitchen I work for also distributes shoes, I bet the soup kitchen near you does or knows the local people who distribute shoes in your local community.

Wow. 🤯 Thank you. I loved this piece - and I had no idea about Qualley, that she was Andy McDowell’s kid, or those wretched heel-only shoes!

Love your wrap-up. 🙌🏼
