“Let me introduce you to my savior Jesus Christ, who told me to cut health funding for the poor and then publicly make fun of people worried about those cuts.”
Seriously how is it that this vile harridan can even keep her job? We are a shit hole country.
When you see such shitty behavior from a Senator you can’t help but wonder how the opposition party is so toxic in her state that she can pull this weak-assed trolling—and no she would never dare this shit if Trump hadn’t paved the way with such shit—with no fear of losing her job. Because she is just begging to be retired for this shit.
The initial gaffe is just a gaffe, and even I’d give her a pass for it (I have sympathy for anyone trying to handle a heckler on the spot, yes even that guy you’re thinking of) but the follow up of “ha let me troll the little people who worry about losing Medicaid” is deservingly a career ender. Instead we got to the point where Iowans will just stick with her tiresome shot rather than give Schumer another seat.
Joni Ernst seems to be having trouble reconciling her job as a United States senator from her calling as a prosperity gospel televangelist. After the midterms, perhaps she'll be free to focus on her evangelism full time.
Because He anointed Me to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent Me to proclaim release to captives,
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set free those who are oppressed,"
"If anyone sees a person in need and has the means to help them, but does not, how does the love of God reside within them?"
"7 “If there is a poor person among you, one of your brothers, in any of your [a]towns in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand from your poor brother; 8 but you shall fully open your hand to him, and generously lend him enough for his need in whatever he lacks."

No.

As Stephen notes, the performative public maunderings of people like Sen. Hognuts are indicative of the super hero comic book mentality of MAGAts. The ideology is no deeper than that. Unlike the Nazi officer in the widely shown comedy clip, who wonders if they are “the baddies,” Ernst never considers this possibility, at least publicly, indeed she considers herself and the MAGA movement the good guys. Since life is not a comic book we may determine soon who are the baddies in terms of who wins. It may not be who she thinks.
Ernst can go meet her eternal reward sooner rather than later for all I care. IF any of these “Christians” actually believed the Bible they’d certainly be concerned about that book of Revelations whereby the bad guys will pretty much be roasting on a spit in hell.
For it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. (To paraphrase.)
I've said this elsewhere but Ernst shall see no penalty from this because in the end, *to a person* everyone in that room will reelect her. Because in the end she hates the same minorities they do, and she is all in on the unreconstructed Republican Party's goals of killing as many of us with miasma, pestilence and famine as possible. They consider the vulnerable minorities they hate the "useless takers" most of all. Even if ruins their own lives, at least if there are people like us hurting it's all worth it. Never listen to any of their excuses about "economy" or whatever.
I find it interesting that the one time a Republican actually tells the truth - as Joni Ernst did - that it's plastered all over the place. And by truth I mean that's what Republicans want - what they have been working on for 40 plus years - a poor, unhealthy, desperate populace, run by a monarch (Trump for now) and nobles (oligarchs) with a strong Christian Nationalist church. Republicans have been enriching the wealthy, blocking voting and education and especially pushing propaganda and disinformation in its media. And it's worked. Ernst is just the messenger telling us the basic truth.
I read The New Yorker’s profile on Curtis Yarvin yesterday, right after learning that Trump’s administration had cut funding for pRep treatment. People are going to die painfully, and needlessly.
I already had my suspicions but the Yarvin piece confirms that the current GOP is based on sociopaths. Cruelty, pain- it’s all necessary. You are nothing in this world but a background character. Your life doesn’t matter to these people. For what it’s worth, Yarvin is also a weirdo, but that doesn’t stop the GOP from taking his lead.
People like Joni Ernst couldn’t care less if you find Jesus. They just want you to shut the fuck up.
It's too bad that ghouls like Ernst haven't found Jesus. The one in the NT - the guy who fed the hungry, healed the sick, accepted the outcasts, and commanded his followers to do the same. Not everyone is a healer, but everyone can accept outcasts and help those in need. We aren't asked to do everything for others, but to help out as much as possible.
That’s the Jesus I grew up knowing. The one that fed the homeless people who often came to our door. The one who saw the folks outside our home shivering, so gave them the extra coats or blankets we had. That person doing Jesus’ work is my mom. That’s the person I grew up with.
These other people? I have never seen such a weak sauce bunch of Christians in my life.
Well said! Daddy died on May 7 - peacefully in his sleep at home. He was 89, and in hospice care, so it wasn't unexpected. Patients in hospice are treated with dignity, and their wishes are respected.
Ernst, and other ghouls, don't care about respecting people, at least the ones they deem inferior to themselves. They don't care if people die, and in some cases, that may be the point - a Final Solution, if you will excuse the term. They also don't care that all of this will have a cascading effect on the economy, in a negative way. That is why I call these people ghouls, as the have no souls.
That's what pains me the most. Trump and his ilk keep telling their voter base (and all Americans) they don't give the slightest fuck about them, because money and power is all it matters.
And their voters only keep putting them in power. So they deserve this, even if we don't.

“Apparently, you’ll worry less about hunger and death once you’ve found Jesus”. Although if Joni actually knew her bible
stories, Jesus fed people, cured people of their afflictions and kept the lights on (ok, candles). All without charging them up the wazoo to do so. 🙄

Doesn't Ernst qualify as 'an unsightly burden on others?'
Thank you, Stephen, beautifully done. There’s nothing to add. You’ve said it all.

I am sorry for your loss.
Thank you. We miss him, but although his body wore out, his mind didn’t, and could converse with us, and remember many things from his long life.

Right, but the TACO voters get the satisfaction of owning the libs by voting for TACO and other ghouls. Pathetic!
