I really think Gabbard is being used as a stand-in for Harris because she's a light-skinned POC. Trump is such a creature of showbiz and media that even his debate stand-ins need to physically resemble the opponent, as if they're doubles on a movie set.

And I find her earlier performance echoing her current campaign in so many ways. I'm not certain she has changed, I think we have changed so we now resonate to her message.
