I think removing the filibuster is a good idea because people should get what they voted for. Insane that we had 50ish good Senators and absurd majority in the house in 2009 and got like 3 bills out of it.
Even as I think Democrats should use the filibuster while it’s available to them, I think it’d be beneficial to have a reform of the filibuster even in this circumstance. If the filibuster had a (say) 90 day time limit and required actual floor debate, I’d take that deal if I was the Dems because that’d still get them time to slow down the CR and work over public opinion (which is the main tool the minority has). An automatic supermajority (just for some types of legislation!) with no actual floor debate requirement is still stupid.
The whole premise of Sinema's trolling is dumb. The anti-filibuster argument is that overall it's bad for democracy and thus we'd be better off without it, not that it's bad in every individual circumstance. Like the way we fund campaigns, thinking it should be reformed doesn't require a commitment to unilaterally disarm.
This incident is actually a good argument for filibuster abolishment - if we hadn't had it, the outcome would have been identical, but the blame would be fully when it belongs, on the GOP. Now the takeaway is, the GOP passed a bad bill but some Democrats, including their Senate leader, helped them pass it. Ergo, the filibuster is not only bad for outcomes overall but it obscures why we have the problems we do for people who don't follow Congress closely.
Exactly. It's especially frustrating bc if Dems had successfully abolished the filibuster and passed voting and abortion rights protections, made DC and Puerto Rico states, in addition to any number of other positive things, it's possible that Harris would be president now and Dems might still control the Senate.
Even if 2024 had gone the same way, as you point out, the vote would've gone the same way BUT we still would've accomplished a lot more when in power.
Senator Hot Topic cashed out, so she is sure happy. What a revolting person. Oh yeah and Senator Hot Topic is a former "Green" Party person, just to put that info out there.
As for AOC replacing Schumer, well if she's feeling froggy, jump. This is the time to do it. It's time for the Internet faves to get in the barrel and show how it's done. Has she announced yet?
Time is running short so if she is serious for either Senate or President she needs to start right now.
Had the Dems had the fortitude to nuke the filibuster, and had passed those laws, they would still have a majority - in both Houses, and most likely the WH as well. That is what they don't get - passing popular laws HELP them at the ballot box. I have no doubts that the repubs would nuke the filibuster to achieve their goal of destroying the Constitution, if they need to do it, but with the Spineless Ten in the Dem coalition, they don't need to do so. The difference between the Dem's goals and the repub's - the Dems will strengthen the nation and help her citizens, whereas the repubs will turn the country into a shithole. And AOC isn't a hypocrite, or wrong in what she said. As long as the filibuster is in place, Senate Dems should use it when needed. They did 3 times - good! But on the CR issue, the one most publicized, 10 folded like cheap suits. As for Sinema, she's, well, I can't post what I really think of her, or I'll get the banhammer.
And even if Sinema WAS 'justified ' in her criticism of AOC, at least AOC is willing to use the same double standard tactics as the republicans that Sinema betrayed her party to get in bed with. Sinema should ADMIRE AOC for using the same tactic as her new friends...
I really hate that fucking woman...
Dear Krysten...Once your term is up...Its over for you...Dems will spit in your face, and Republicans will throw you under the bus for even even DARING to have had a 'D' next to your name...I look forward to your inglorious evaporation into irrelevance
She's out of the Senate, as her term ended this year. She's a lobbyist or something with a crypto related firm, so she's doing all right, at least financially.
Who?????????!!!!!!

…after years of sinema’s exemplary obstruction of congress and the constant backstabbing the dems during that time…
Sinema and crypto is a scam made in hell. Would you buy anything that has her taint on it?
It will be a pleasure to vote AGAINST Kyrsten Sinema in the next election.
She’s not a Senator anymore because she was not re-elected. She’s just out here giving her unwanted and unneeded opinion.

What was the point of saving the filibuster if you’re too scared to use it?
Who asked for your opinion, Krysten?
Kyrsten Sinema is the Meghan McCain of Tulsi Gabbards and Joe Manchins.

It’s a bit ……stupid to take a victory lap on the fillibuster when Democrats won’t even use it when given the opportunity.
But this is the kind of analysis from a now crypto scam lobbyist
Haha crypto board
I knew I should've sold t-shirts with Q on them.
Fucking conscience.
Only thing to say about Sinema is she and her campaign lied to improve their fundraising. I asked for my money back. Maybe in crypto 🤣

I want to agree but we passed lots of good legislation during Biden's term and most people probably thought it was the cause of inflation.
“Banhammer” — love it!
Thanks.
I stole it from Wonkette.
