I had mandatory overtime on New Year's Eve and through the night. I worked for the Dep't of Transportation, and someone way higher up the chain of command than I was concerned the traffic lights wouldn't make it. Never mind that as an equipment operator, there was nothing I could do about it if the signals malfunctioned other than call in an electrician. Why not make an electrician work instead of us? Again above my pay grade. Good for some overtime, anyway.
I remember Y2K doomsday predictions. We went to see friends in France for L’ans Deux Mille. No computer glitches but the storm of the century hit and we were diverted to Heathrow overnight due to so many downed trees in France.
There was a young girl in our row. Turned out she was like 12 and her parents did not tell the airline. She was stuck with zero resources since it was Boxing Day in England. A serious holiday.
We got her a calling card to reach her friends and then gathered as many mom types to be her chaperones to get her safely to her host family in France.
I’ll bet the parents got a pretty big talking to from the airlines about not paying for an unaccompanied middle school kid.
Based on your son’s animated project I dare say he may have been better equipped in this case. That’s my weak tie in here.
Being involved in stop-animation film production can be an excellent career. Look at all these lovely people employed by Aardman, creators of Wallace and Gromit --https://www.aardman.com/careers/
Cute video from your son, and congrats on his reaching middle school. My grandson just started middle school, and so far, all is well. Good luck to your son, and to your wife and yourself as parents of a middle schooler.

Have a safe Labor Day all.
That video is cool! (the stop-motion one, not J.J...that stuff made me cringe even as a kid).
