Pundits afraid that Al-Sayed’s victory means that voters now want socialism are missing the point. Voters are rejecting an establishment that is (often justifiably) seen as unable or unwilling to fight Trump. The DSA types are antiestablishment and unabashed in what they call for, and voters like that even if they don’t like socialism.
Now though progressives should recognize that there are still a lot of voters (primarily nonwhite and white noncollege voters) that aren’t sold on their candidates. The task now is to reach and sell to these voters, because without them turning out in big numbers the Republicans will win. Al Sayed can do this both by getting himself in front of those audiences and defining himself before Republicans can define him (we know HOW they will define him, those gross swamp bigot trash bitches), and hit Trump so hard that’s all voters will register. Because this election is more than anything a referendum on a demented child raping monster who is polling below 40% and even losing the white vote.
I think a lot of Americans couldn't actually tell you what "commie" means.
Now it's time for the general, so hopefully people there have made sure they're mobilized. I am concerned about polling misses around this, so I want to make sure that people understand it's not all in the bag. Stevens made the right statements IMO in her concession so I want to make sure people rally behind El-Sayed and get us on the way to a *semblance* of a check on Maladministration 2.0 and America's Pilonidal Cyst.
I sent El-Sayed a few bucks yesterday. I can't vote for him, as I live in SC (I've donated to Dr. Annie Andrews, voted for her in the primary, and will vote for her in the general).
Glad that Al-Sayed won. Stevens couldn’t even answer man on the street questions like when she was greeting a woman holding her baby and was trying to get her vote. When the woman started asking intelligent questions about her policies and he acceptance of AIPAC money she completely avoided answering the question. That was not a candidate prepared for working in the big house for sure.
I’m not so much an AES supporter as a, “What in the everloving fuck were the establishment thinking by pushing Stevens when McMorrow could’ve used the help and been a perfectly acceptable avatar of moderation?”.
Addendum: The establishment’s utter delusion of late that they can have their cakes and eat them too, has just been astounding in this regard.
I haven't followed all the gyrations of this race, but it tracks pretty closely with other results all primary season long. Joe Biden's attempt to pivot to "normalcy" probably doomed him more than inflation did. Democrats are sick of the mealy-mouthed Stevenses of the world, who think we just need some tweaking around the edges and all will be well again. Who are more afraid of offending people who will likely never vote for them than actually fighting for something. It's not a policy debate on the Democratic side now, it's who best communicates the urgency of the moment and is not afraid of an all out brawl for power (I don't think it hurts that El Sayed looks like a tight end either, lol.)
