The illustration of the "Atlanta Race Riot" is a reminder that when African American people were attacked by a mob of white people, somehow it was called a race riot blaming the victims, not the perpetrators.

There's been all these romantic songs written over the years about how love never dies and treacle like that. BS, love absolutely dies, I like Billy Holiday's take on it where it's like a faucet and it turns on and off. That seems a bit more on the spot for me.

But hate - now that shit lives eternal. Well, now that I'm suitably depressed for this Monday, the rest of ya'll try to have a good one. Don't let this shit yet ya down.

Thanks for the history lesson, Stephen. The historical period of Reconstruction is very instructive about what is happening today, as crimes are whitewashed, hate is furthered, and the unreconstructed work to change the very meaning of the words meant to hold them to account.

I'm reminded of the excellent book, Fahrenheit 451, in which the importance of human memory became critical, at a time when books and historical records were being destroyed by fire. Those who resisted each learned a book by heart in order to preserve the truths contained within. Those of us who prefer the truth must keep repeating the actual facts of the MAGA system and its cowardly proponents, and never allow history to be rewritten.

History sadly rhymes in a country that pampers, even caters to, the unreconstructed.

What trump and his band of fascists will do is cause for fear, but they can and should be mocked. For all that they now have all the power in the federal government, they are fighting amongst themselves, whining about whatever it is that offends them at any given moment, and in general be-clowning themselves. Laughing at fascists, or any authoritarians, is one way to resist them, and drives them even nuttier, as they realize that not all bow down to them.

Yeah, there's a reason we refer to Route 29 as "29" and not by its *other* name, Wade Hampton Boulevard. I lost track...were they able to get the high school re-named?

Forgot about the high school, probably because when I was in high school (Dorman), we didn't play Greenville schools - we played Gaffney, Chester, Lancaster - schools to the east of us. My daughters didn't care about football at all when in high school, not even for the social aspect, so I have no idea with schools Dorman played in the early 2000s.

I haven't been back since I left in 2010. Honestly, I'd like to go back, but like many places, am hearing tales of gentrification. Can't be worse than where I am tho - the epicenter of all gentrification in the northeast...

So Al Assad is toppled, just in time for the newest psyco wanna-be mass murderer to climb up on the bloodstained pedestal.

Stephen, it was four years ago, not five years ago that trump unleashed his mob on the Capitol. You are right that he's more powerful than ever, yet he's whining about flags being flown half-staff to honor a true Christian, and a truly great man - President Carter. So he's powerful, yet pathetic. As for Wade Hampton, I had no idea, it's just a major street in my neighboring city of Greenville, and silly me, I assumed that he did something good for the honor. Thanks for setting things straight.

Easy mistake - it's 2025, and the election that trump lost was in 2020.

Me, having a look around the neighborhood, on Wade Hampton Blvd no less: "Who the hell is Bob Jones, and why is there a university named after him?".

Yeah, welcome to the neighborhood for me...
