I never got into "Cheers," and probably never will. Having worked in Corporate America, and now living through this maladministration, I have no desire to watch such a show, no matter how well made, although I do understand if others want to revisit the show. We all need to do what will help us through this trying time. I have been watching a lot of MST3k on YouTube - they are running several live streams. Silliness seems to have a calming, soothing effect on me.
I still love "Cheers," too—I've watched the entire series (both when it was on TV and in syndication both in the US and here in the UK) probably a good dozen or more times. (Unfortunately, while it used to be on at a normal-human time, it's now on in a 90-minute block beginning at something like 6 a.m.—yeah, not for me in my golden age of retirement.)
I also agree that the show really got so much better when Rebecca came on board, although now I have to make a conscious effort to separate Kirsty Alley from the character she played. (The Diane years, I'll give a miss—not only was she simply annoying, but the on-again-off-again-on-again-ad-nauseum relationship she and Sam had was sooooo tiring.)
I guess I always saw Rebecca as someone who tried so very hard but no matter what she did, she was simultaneously a bit incompetent AND an undervalued employee. And, of course, when corporate crept into her personal life with Robin, she put her all into it but ended up getting fcked over there, too.
One of my favorite sitcoms. Kirstie's Rebecca was a portrayal for the ages.
Must step in to mention that my father complained about bringing Rebecca in because, "It's not the same. Having the woman be his boss isn't funny."
Yes, and Rebecca does slowly become more neurotic and outright incompetent over her first season.
