You are clearly a Superman fan and scholar. I knew you were my kind of people! This is such an excellent essay and thank you for it.

Look I don't know about all that, I just had a real fun time with the movie thoroughly enjoyed it. It was colorful, hopeful, fun and optimistic. I loved it.

Unfortunately "complex" and "nuance" are not really something that is part of a lot of online Discourse™ it seems, so I can see how certain conclusions are jumped to.

No matter what, given how this is all going, it's going to end very badly.

Interesting that all of the worst people in the country reflexively think that the bully country is a stand-in for Israel. Also interesting that they whine about Gunn's Superman being woke, when he is as woke as the original Superman. Yes, Superman was woke before WWII.

This is like posting a meme about how stupid someone is without naming anyone. All of MAGA (rightly) assumes you’re talking about TRump.

My Superman review. Contains spoilers: Why do I want to watch a microcosm of our world as entertainment? An upgraded billionaire Trump/Musk villain - Lex Luthor - working with the Republican Congress and SCOTUS - Luthor's minions - who should be charged with murder, using super ICE to round up illegal aliens and people they don't like. A cartoonish Netanyu figure who attacks the people of Gaza, known by a different name, to create Trump's/Luthor's version of it. All of the Luthor people delight in cruelty. And the MAGA brainwashed sheep, adding to their number many of the rest of "the people", immediately turning on Superman with the help of the RW media ecosystem. Throw in an ending that will never happen.
