Early in the cellphone era, restaurants and stores had signs warning people not to talk on their phones. But that was because people were so damn loud on their phones. In the last fifteen (twenty?) years, I've thought, whenever I see one of those those signs, "Oh, how quaint—and certainly they don't mean that any more! After all, who even uses their phone to *talk*?" Of course, people do still get busy with their phones at the worst moments, just in more ways now than used to be possible. What's interesting to me is the constantly evolving dance of rules (or at least signage), norms, and behaviors: they form an ecosystem that never stays still and never seems quite right.

So smart phones led to President Trump, because they make people stupid. I'll buy that!

Get off Stephen's lawn, kids...and mine too, for that matter!

The biggest offenders are drivers; by my estimates, half of them look at their fucking mobiles while they drive in the Houston area. And this is in spite of laws against it, and car technology advancements that allow you to talk, drive and pick your favorite music while keeping your hands on the will.

Not just stupid, but very fucking stupid.

Trump is doubling down — waging war on our communities, silencing voters, and handing billionaires giveaways while families struggle. This isn’t just politics. It’s democracy versus dictatorship. And together, we’re choosing democracy.

On October 18, millions of us are rising again to show the world: America has no kings and the power belongs to the people.

Hell this article reminds me of the promise of the Internet, and it then evolved into just another convenient vehicle for crooks to hurt us. And then you get a lot of people who take the limitless information of the Internet and decide they want to suffer medieval maladies.

I was thinking the same thing about cellphones and pedestrians and Portland when a similarly "blinkered and muffled" young man staring at his phone meandered across MLK and DIDN'T EVEN LOOK LEFT OR RIGHT AT THE FOUR LANES OF TRAFFIC. I earnestly hope to end my lifetime driving career without hitting or killing anyone.
