Keep in mind Many of our young physicians & surgeons are Dreamers or naturalized. We think Healthcare is a giant problem now…just wait.

Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.[1]

I feel rather confident that Robinson and most readers here know we didn't abolish slavery, so here's the text to remind you that incarcerated people are lawfully enslaved in the US.

I think they'll be the ones working at the slaughterhouses and meat packers, and of course in the fields, once the "deportations" start.

I’m using Jimmy Kimmel as the canary in the coal mine. If/when he starts kissing Trump ass or pulling punches or is taken off the air, that’s when I’ll know we are past the point of no return.

He’s doing a much better job covering Trump than most journalists.

Peter Baker writing from jail in a year - “Although Trump has jailed me for my recent article calling him “off the mark on immigration” I can’t help thinking I wouldn’t have wanted Biden to pardon me like he shamefully did with his son. Plus, Trump has treated me pretty well. Tonight is even meatloaf night!”

Well done, sir. Yes, my psychoanalytic take has always been, Donald Trump hates his parents but could never properly integrate those feelings. So he is going to destroy them--which in this case means the whole damn buffet table we all happen to be at. Won't even let us finish making our waffles and such.

The title of the next 4 years in America is Worse and Worser. I shudder to imagine what horrors await us.

There does happen to be a process for overturning or changing an Amendment to the Constitution and it isn’t that a president can unilaterally declare an Amendment defunct. It’s actually long and complicated. Look at the progress of the ERA—no progress. He’s a stupid person. I look forward to all his dopey programs dying in the House because the Republican margin is so narrow. We just need to remind our Democratic congresspeople that we don’t want these changes, whatever they are, and to please vote against them.

It’s weird how “I can’t guarantee prices won’t go up” doesn’t cause “economic anxiety”.

SethTriggs's avatar

Also Black people tend to have the lowest incomes in America and we don't tend to get "economically anxious."

Trux Mint In Box's avatar

All those “fears of a recession” have gone away too. At least from the NYT front page.

Thesaurus Wrecks's avatar

Absolutely. The Vibecession has disappeared overnight!

I am growing frustrated with the people telling me not to panic when I raise concerns about what Trump will do, or mention the mild preparations I am going through, like tidying the house for possible long term family visitors from other states, or keeping my assets liquid or stocking birth control or plan B. I’m not saying bad things will happen immediately, certainly not in my state. These are the mildest of readiness choices, useful regardless of good or bad outcomes. I don’t expect them to do much good, and I hope they aren’t necessary. But I am very much annoyed with “oh, don’t be afraid!” from people who view my concern as overreacting. Do they not remember last time? Do they not hear the actual words coming from the man’s mouth? Do they not know the historic results of states of war plus natural disasters plus dissatisfaction with the political system?

I’m a middle aged woman and I’m over being frightened into not going to the ER in case my symptoms will be blown off or I will be told it’s just a cold. Pardon all the people, Biden. Stop insisting this is an overreaction or a declaration of war, media. Media brought this upon us and I’m not listening to their accusations of me overreacting anymore.

Suzie Greenburg's avatar

Well, the voters brought us here, but yes.

belfryo's avatar

"But I am very much annoyed with “oh, don’t be afraid!”

Only disengaged people who have NO IDEA what the fuck is going on would tell you that...The SAME people that BROUGHT us to this sorry place...you are entirely within your 'rights' to dismiss them outright...

“Look, when this election is over, based on what they’ve done, I would have every right to go after them, and it would be easy because it’s Joe Biden,”

Spoken like a true dictator.

I still cannot believe that people voted for this shit.

I hope the suffering of 'America' is intense and painful...Apparently it's the only way for 'us' to learn "Stove Hot"....The WORSE it is, the EASIER it will be to build coalitions of resistance AND the sooner we can be DONE with IT...A slow even simmer is the WORST that could happen....that's how shit gets normalized. I hope that Trump unleashes all his caos on day one so that STUPID FUCKING WHITE CHRISTIAN BIGOT PIG-FUCK AMERICA can see what it has wrought...Like shoving a dog's nose in its own shit when it poops on the Living room rug...My country disgusts me right now.

I don't WANT us to 'have' to hurt, but since apparently we HAVE to (because STUPID FUCKING WHITE CHRISTIAN BIGOT PIG-FUCK AMERICA) lets make it COUNT for something...Lets make it be a catalyst for getting through this crap

please to forgive outburst...

sigh

Many an addict's gotta bottom-out bad before they have even a chance of changing. Though it's also true that, even then, many end up dead, institutionalized, or impaired forever.

For the record, that’s never been an effective technique for housebreaking a dog. It only makes the dog realize what an asshole you are.

The problem is that key demographics don’t trust Democrats so if they are suffering under Trump, they are likely to believe the spin that Democrats are somehow responsible for that suffering. We saw that during the pandemic.

Media and the rightwing media human centipede are very wise in the way of Murc's Law, and they can easily spread that message and reinforce it too. It's very grim. Mainly because the centipede tells them what they want to hear too.

belfryo's avatar

I don't need it to be effective, I just wanna push some MAGA faces in some shit!

Take care of yourself and your family as best you can. Take care of your neighbors and people who need help right in front of you.

Resist. Defy. Preach truth. Keep your small light shining in the darkness.

Things are going to get worse. Have each other's backs.

Yes, mutual aid is our best aid out of the gate. People got to eat and sleep. They need somewhere to do it.

I will help ANYONE who voted for Harris Walz...The rest of them can eat a bag of dicks in hell...

You better than me to sit through a Trump interview.

vorpal 🚫♔'s avatar

Would be interested if the 'media' start disappearing all their fawning Trump coverage when he finally goes and the long national nightmare is over... a la Vogue magazine's wiping the gushing article on Asma Assad from their website in 2012.

If there's anything left of them in four years.

belfryo's avatar

"If there's anything left of them in four years."

Hopefully there won't be..the ONE silver lining in all this is the possible obliteration of the legacy media giants by the Trump administration...They NEED to be burned to the ground for bringing us to this vile point in our history...

And seriously FUCK the MSM and the legacy media...they learned NOTHING from this massive tragic loss...The NYT especially is RIGHT BACK to the same crap

MzNicky in East Jesus, TN's avatar

>> Trump insisted that his supporters who assaulted police officers “had no choice,” which is what you can say when you enjoy the full endorsement and continued support of the Fraternal Order of the Police.<<

Huh. One would think the FOP wouldn’t look with favor on someone who sides with domestic terrorists over their police officers, who are only trying to do their job. Wonder how LEOs feel about such an unsupportive organization?

belfryo's avatar

fascists are stupid...that's all you need to know...

SethTriggs's avatar

Not even sure why he bothered doing the interview; there isn't going to actually be any accountability for him.

Judge the people who thought him being in office was "no big" and not worth voting for the buffet of policies available from Harris/Walz harshly. And judge the ones who wanted this guy in directly the harshest of all. And when they inevitably complain (or do the "well he meant to say X when he said Y" cope), ignore them. They wanted to believe the fanfiction about the Harris/Walz ticket and let people cover for him, so they get what they get.

belfryo's avatar

you missed the point...the point was to further normalize fascism and pave the way for when ALL the media legacy bow down before this monster they once had the power to stop but failed to stop...

SethTriggs's avatar

Well that's fair too, I forgot about that aspect. But I expect the media to bow down because their Republican owners decree it.

belfryo's avatar

Woops...I didn't mean to come off sassy in my comment
