"Vigorously" is a very strong, incredibly bold word. It's the kind of word that makes me feel super safe and confident!

The comments on the YouTube video are frightening. Anyone who looks at the shoving match with ICE agents vastly outnumbering the mayor and 3 congressional representatives and blames the victims is a MAGA 🤡

Democrats who think “well Trump is becoming more unpopular so we will just beat Republicans at the polls” are kidding themselves. Trump’s goons now see that they can literally arrest, indict and jail their enemies with minimal pushback (are Democrats even clogging up congressional business, or refusing to leave the Senate floor, over this?) so it’s not hard to imagine they’ll use arrests to keep Democrats from campaigning (who would risk volunteering, knowing they can’t afford a criminal defense against made up charges?) or threatening media outlets who dare air Democratic ads. What disincentive does Trump have for this?

I don’t want to think about what this will lead to.

JESUS H CHRIST is all I have to say.

It's like they literally do not understand this is a coup. Because it is. It's a soft coup - for now! - but a coup nonetheless. That's when you try literally everything and anything to stop it.

“House Democrats will respond vigorously in the days to come at a time, place and manner of our choosing.”

Yeah, you guys do that. What “vigorous” response are you working on? Is Chuck Schumer breaking out his thesaurus for another sternly worded letter? Do you think adopting, nearly word for word, the menacing rhetoric of Dear Leader himself is fooling anyone? The Democratic party is first and foremost concerned about protecting their privileged roles in maintaining the oligarchy. They are POLITICIANS, as are the Repubs, and are just as loath to lose their status.

Strongly worded statement seems like something made from inside a jail cell where nothing happens but those being accused of breaking the law just laugh and laugh.

This lawless administration is winning the war on our democracy and the Dems are doing nothing effective. It’s the Wild West and we can’t just hide inside the OK corral and taunt them a second time. It’s not working.

I am certain these charges are going to be dropped like Mayor Baraka's were, because puff adders know more about the law than Habba does. There's video evidence. Of course if there is a fascist-friendly Aileen Cannon-style judge, all bets are off (though if it goes to jury trial I can't see a jury convicting, because again video evidence).

Nevertheless, Habba feels comfortable doing this because Americans gladly gave the keys of the Executive Branch (what does your law enforcement) to a transnational racist, ethnonationalist criminal syndicate. Coupled with Murc's Law it's hard to imagine her feeling any pressure whatsoever as really all that can happen to her are sanctions...*maybe.* She knows that many Americans will prioritize their privilege, prejudice and even Internet clout.

“House Democrats will respond vigorously in the days to come at a time, place and manner of our choosing.” Is this a concept of a plan?

Expand full comment
SethTriggs's avatar

I'm not even sure it matters. I think given the numbers there is no plan because of the composition of the Executive Branch. We've already seen toothless impeachment stunts read by Democrats but they seem to just get no notice on social media as Murc's Law is Cruise Control for Cool (and Clout!). So despite these, the conventional wisdom online is Democrats are doing nothing.

Democrats keep mentioning Trump's low approval but they don't think that they could ever make him unpopular enough that Republicans would abandon him. Meanwhile, Democrats have voted for the Laken Riley Act. This all reads as if Trump is popular -- I mean, Republicans ranted against Obama but that didn't mean he was unpopular enough to remove. A truly unpopular politician is toxic to their own party

Part of this is because of the fact that Democrats are always freelancing, so there is never going to be a national strategy. Republican Party works very well as a top-down structure especially since the base modus operandi is "no," which are the easiest votes ever. In fact it's really impossible for Republicans to pass any constructive legislation for this fact.

President Klan Robe actually IS popular in the way that really counts, he enjoys the cult of personality's advantage for conservatives and the fact that the Electoral College overemphasizes bigoted conservative rural states so that they can even win by subtraction. Combined with population increases in conservative Sun Belt states like Texas and Florida and Democrats are going to be very much on the back foot.

On edit: I am now reminded that it isn't President Klan Robe himself who is "popular," it's the ethnic cleansing, pogroms and deprivation that he champions that are. That's why the hypocrisy doesn't matter. That's why evangelicals keep flocking to him (including minorities who should know better), because he promises to hurt the same people they hate.

This is why evangelicals have no problem with the adultery, the sex pestery and his having a rap sheet a mile long. He champions the causes that the unreconstructed love, *even though he is ALSO screwing them!*

A) If he doesn't know who Rep, McIver is, how does he know that she's out of control or what she was doing? As usual, he was lying, about knowing who she is, and that she was out of control. It was LE who was out of control.

B) We will have law and order in this country when the convicted criminal who made those remarks is behind bars.

It ain't right to treat student protesters that way either. I was only nine, but I remember peaceful student protesters being shot and killed at Kent State in 1970.

This is an every day occurrence and I feel powerless. Call my congressman? He’s Trump endorsed. I guess call my two democratic senators, Kelly and Gallego, but to what end? I do not know. Every day feels like we’re Charlie Brown and they’re Lucy, only instead of swiping a football, she’s kicking us in the teeth.

I don't buy the 'call your congressman' schtick either...To tell them they need to do their FUCKING JOB??? A job whose details I assumed they KNEW? Why should I have to remind a DEMOCRATIC elected official what being a fucking DEMOCRAT means?
