As many of you know, I’m a massive X-Men fan. I just launched a new series reflecting on the backstory and mindsets of iconic characters. Episode 1 is live—check it out!

I'm thoroughly uncultured and have notoriously horrible taste in movies, but my favorite magneto moment is in First Class when he ambles into the Nazi bar in South America and slowly drops hints about his actual identity before going to town.

Man…I wish I could like this post several times! This a conversation that needs to happen BEFORE we get to Magneto. Especially as I just read, right before, someone making a case FOR Zionism using the X-Men )and getting some crucial facts wrong).

Maybe. It is such an integral part of his character though. The X-men 97 continuation keeps it.

I guess you could make it some undefined genocide, but it would lessen him though.

The tragedy is that both he and Charles are right and both are wrong because humanity is not uniform, but diverse. Some people you cannot expect to live peacefully with. Most people want to live peacefully. Too many are willing to follow demagogues who preach hate.

I hope they keep his backstory.

This is a very interesting analysis. I had no idea (or completely forgot) about the existence of Mr. Sinister.

One thing your work shows me...there are a lot of surprising layers in comic books...even for the time they were made.
