'A lot of mainstream Democrats think it’s a mistake to focus too much on the State Department layoffs because, as I’ve seen asked more than once online, “Who cares about bureaucrat losing their jobs?” '
And the dead hand of Ronald Reagan continues its malign influence.
Uhhh Stephen… there WERE 761,000 job cuts IE layoffs last year, out of probably a little north of 30M “gross” job “losses” (IE jobs that were cancelled when someone left a company etc).
They were just cancelled out by MORE new jobs that were created.
Not saying the Trumpers aren’t ALSO pieces of shit… but yeah.
Republicans want to compare this to private sector layoffs? Fine you stupid dipshits, show me a private company that brings in a CEO who doesn’t know shit about the business, calls all the employees leeches, publicly promises to “traumatize” them like he’s a sex predator on Epstein Island (whoops, too on the nose there), fires them without regard to performance, skills or necessity but rather based on whether AI bots pick up buzz words in their departments (too bad if “transition” is in your name, the rapists are picking on the 2020s version on the Homosexual Scare), falsely claim their performance sucked, realize oops you fired a lot of people you need so you have to try to hire them back but oh no they took new jobs, now the business is unable to perform operations properly and is wasting far more money than you saved.
Sure, some private sector companies are run that poorly, but they don’t last long and only a fucking idiot like Salena Zito would hold that up as “normal business.”
Jesus, the unreflective idiocy of these right-wing influencers saying no one complained when they got laid off. Hmm, could that be because the work you do is spectacularly unimportant compared with that of the people who literally keep the country running, Serena Person-We’ve-Never-Heard-Of?
Yep—what these morons don’t get is that the government workers may be competent and doing necessary work—DOGE never bothered to take the time to find out, but in a land of idiots ALL government work is waste performed by parasites. Until they find out what eating uninspected food, flying un-controlled airlines, or having no emergency disaster response is like. Then they’ll bitch.
Who is Government, a book by Michael Lewis, should be mandatory reading. Six contributing authors tell stories about the work done by government agencies. Each story highlights the roles of government employees, aka, public servants, whose work makes all of our lives better. Most Americans have no idea just how much they depend on the dedicated work of these people. Most of these agencies function so efficiently and seamlessly, we don't even know we rely on them every single day. But, as the unfortunate people in Texas are finding out, when those public servants are gone, it suddenly becomes a very big problem.
When the Dept of Education, State Dept, HHS, EPA, FDA, IRS, ATF, DOE and all the agencies and departments that make things work are destroyed by defunding and firing staff, Americans lives will suddenly get worse. All those agencies were approved by Congress to meet glaring public needs. All of them perform valuable services, which we will miss. When the only agencies left are Trump's Gestapo, we will notice.
I am no expert on the US budget, but I have read many reliable sources that state that funding staff for all government agencies, excluding DOD, is essentially a rounding error, in terms of dollars. It doesn't make any difference in the budget, it only ruins peoples' lives.
i care about all the people losing jobs whether it was these latest firings or the ones DOGE was cutting early in the administration's start. no one picks up the phone when you call these govt. places and also medical places now. our country will be a mess when no one has a job and there is no food because it is all dead or poisoned from lack of oversight. i am fearful (but that is what they want) but mostly angry, because how could this be happening? my frustration level is at a level i cannot sustain without losing my sanity. 🤦🏽♀️💔💀
Lately I keep thinking more and more about Heather McGhee's excellent "The Sum of Us". She talks about how many southern towns chose to fill in and close their community swimming pools rather than integrate them. It feels like after one Black president much of our country would rather burn the place to the ground rather than share it
The cruelty is the point with these ghouls. They don't care about rural America any more than they care about fetuses - both are handy shields to hide their cruelty. But they are stupid too - as you mentioned, all of this is destroying our soft power.
Oh when they can’t get the help they need from the agencies they never realized were necessary I’ll bet that they bitch then. When their own family members lose their jobs then they’ll care. When it’s harder to put food on the table because regulations have disappeared and the moneys are running amok over the economy then they’ll be sorry and those will be the ones that cry the most.
Yet more of the toll of sadopopulism. And this of course is going to pay awful dividends for generations. But it is indeed part of the mission of this maladministration to kill as many people as possible with miasma, pestilence and famine.
John McCain's secret daughter attended the same all girls catholic school as my daughter, though not at the same time. The rumor was that the nuns couldn't stand her and she ended up switching schools. So I guess, once a pain in the ass, ALWAYS a pain in the ass.
The school's companion all boys school didn't have the same situation with the McCain sons. One of the buildings at THAT school has John McCain's name on it
A friend of mine in DC used to work for USAid. On a plane trip to Mozambique the man who was next to her unfortunately died. One of her neighbors happened to work for the State Department and he was the one who spent hours working across 9 time zones making the proper arrangements to get things taken care of and get this guy’s body back home to his family.
He got fired last week because he was considered to be part of the bloated bureaucracy. It’s really sad and now who knows how these situations will be handled if they got rid of employees like him.
When accountability only accrues to Democrats (whether by the legal, political, or media systems or the public) you're going to get this. And know-nothingism is a critical part of the sadopopulism that is this maladministration's ethos (as such).

No one complained when they were laid off because they sucked at their jobs and probably stuck their dicks in the fax machines just to feel something.
Yep - they’re flotsam in comparison to government workers, and probably inept flotsam at that.

They've put ZERO effort into studying cause and effect; I'm sorry for your friend. Everything this administration does is cruel and wrong.
