Sam Douglass resigned because they were being threatened and "have a new baby."

That poor fucking kid.

Interestingly these Republican edgelords are just as flummoxed as the liberals who see Trump’s latest “I love rape almost as much as I hate the Blacks” posts and think “THIS time it will sink him!” The edgelords figure Trump can get away with being “non-PC” so why can’t they as well? Then they learn to their chagrin that no, the same lesson the liberals need to learn—America, from institutions like the media and courts to the voters, have decided Trump is a Very Special Boy and the normal rules do not apply to him.

Maybe it’s his “I’m just doing a bit here” cadence, maybe it’s his being a celebrity that our celebrity culture accepted for decades (surely SNL wouldn’t let an open racist host the show twice! Comedy Central invited him to be roasted! What we forget about the Access Hollywood tape was that he was such an in-group celebrity that he was being interviewed on Access Hollywood in the first place!), maybe it’s the way he runs close to the line from decades of manipulating the media, but it’s clear he gets graded on a curve that exists for no one else. So when other Republicans try to pull this shit they learn that nope, it only works for one man.

Good observation. Most of the voters loath trump, but enough don't, and vote for him to give him two wins. As for the media and courts, they should NEVER had made the decision that he's a Very Special Boy, because he ain't. He was a freaking celebrity, famous for being famous! Maybe, just maybe, some of the voters would NOT have voted form him if the media and courts hadn't decided that trump is a Very Special Boy.

It’s madness to make anyone a Very Special Boy and especially when the person in question is so devoid of any positive qualities. Yet this is what American did to itself—the national equivalent of sticking a finger into a sparking electrical outlet.

The whole excuse of “boys will be boys” is a huge reason why women feel unsafe. The whole excuse that these were kids joking around is why our country does not feel safe.

The fact that only a few have resigned is quite disturbing.

One of the reasons why the protests are important.

These people need to know that the decent Americans still outnumber them.

They need to know that a lot of people who look like me (white and male) are not silently agreeing with them, but openly repudiating the hateful ideology and their disgusting "jokes, not jokes", and many more Americans of all colors, creeds, and genders want their country back.

Thank you, Stephen. I mean, ghatdang. You’ve said it all.

And yes, “revering” women is such bullshit, even if Ryan was saying this allegedly to push back against sexism. Women don’t need men to decide to put them on a pedestal; recognition as fellow, equal human beings would do just fine, but most men still don’t get that point. They can take their tiresome madonna/whore bullshit and shove it.

"As a Husband and Father" is such a timeworn trope. It's just a party made of utterly repulsive people, full of epistemic closure and survivorship bias. "I'm the best, people like me are the best," and we see that each of these people are foul, uncreative bigots. That is the sum of their being.

The sad thing is that a lot of America is animated by this same animus, so to a person each of these monsters will find some little niche in the wingnut welfare circuit, and will continue to torment us.

Young Republicans fancy themselves as the handsome jocks from "Revenge of the Nerds," but in reality, they are mostly unfuckable neckbearded losers desperate to hit the MAGA grifting lottery.

And now we are all fucked. Maybe I'm just in a mood this morning but I don't see a path forward that doesn't include violence and destruction. Just like the fucking first nazis. Talk me down guys, tell me it will be ok in the end, the arc of justice and all that. I was heartened to see so many people in the streets protesting but will that be enough? Will people get off their asses and vote these monsters out?

I have this same hangover after each demonstration, no matter how large and successful. I feel so good that day and the next, and then I start having the Doom. But you know, regardless of the path forward, regardless of what is coming, which we cannot foresee, we have to keep fighting regardless. So give yourself a hug and accept the doom feelings, and then pick one good thing to do. Smile at a neighbor, buy someone lunch, wear a rainbow pin and see how willing people are to speak to you, put up a sign. Keep breathing. It’s okay to feel bad, there’s a lot of bad out there. Just choose to do the good, it is all that is within your control.

I think so - that the monsters will be voted out. HOWEVER, I think that they will cheat, or simply not leave. I hope that the first is right, but that I'm wrong about the second. If I am right about the second, it may come to violence and destruction, which I don't want either. If it's a choice between kicking Nazi ass like in WWII or living in a fascist dictatorship, I chose the former, even if I die before we win, because we will win - democracy will win, the Constitution will win, decency will win - all to give our children and grandchildren bright futures.

It used to be said that at least Mussolini made the trains run on time, as if that excused all of the vile stuff that he did to the people of Italy. Now we know that was a lie, put out by Mussolini himself, but the Italians always knew that was a lie, and eventually they took care of Mussolini and his goons.

Dipshit (considering that stupid and juvenile video he retweeted over the weekend, it's a fitting name for trump) keeps telling us that inflation is over, but we all know the truth - it's worse. Actually, it was getting better under Biden, and we all had to know it, no matter what our failing MSM said. Still, people used inflation as an excuse to vote for the failed businessman/failed casino owner/failed football team owner/rapist/pedo/traitorous failed one term president to make him a two term president, and an even bigger failure.

It's my hope and prayer that people won't be fooled by him, and the MSM, again. The huge crowds at the thousands of No Kings rallies on Saturday give me hope. Spartanburg is a blue city in a red county in a red state, and we had hundreds show up Saturday morning, with most of the vehicles honking their horns in support as they drove by.

The sad thing about the short human lifespan is that we don't live long enough to really cultivate any institutional memory. There were, of course, avowed racists after WWII, but basically none of them were glorifying Hitler because the memories of the gas chambers and emaciated survivors were still very fresh in our collective memory. As that generation dies off, there isn't anyone alive who remembers, to remind us how bad the Third Reich was, even worse than we were told in school. My nazi hating grandfather (conscripted to the army at age 35 in 1941) would have smacked these vile human pretenders up the sides of their empty, bigoted heads.
