The story is very simple--Trump has fired up his most extreme right wing elements in the country, and naturally some of these right wingers--already a gun-crazy and excitable group--have taken it to the point of trying to kill him. That's what Trump and his allies don't want to reckon with.
I don't buy the theory that Trump staged the first shooting because if he staged it I don't think he'd have let the shooter use live ammo or shoot anywhere close to him. But it does seem very weird that something hit his ear to cause all the blood, and his ear is magically better a week later without a scar, and the Secret Service decided to let him stand and do a fist pump before taking him off stage, while an active shooter was still out there. (To see the normal way Secret Service does things, watch footage of Reagan's shooting--they don't fuck around, they cover the target and whisk away quickly).
It'd be nice to have a real investigation of what went on there.
Under normal circumstances, you'd think there WOULD be a real investigation—a step-by-step analysis of what happened before, during, and after, including a detailed blow-by-blow of TFG at a hospital under high security and actual doctors speaking to the press as much as they would be allowed. But it was...nothing. If it weren't for the unfortunate rally-goer who was shot and died, it would seem like the whole thing was staged. And, in my cynical mind, it still may have been and the poor retired firefighter who took a bullet was the collateral damage needed to make the whole thing believable. Goddamnit, now I'm just like them with their conspiracy theories they pull out of their butts...
Yeah--it's all very weird. Granted, weird things do happen all the time--the JFK assassination had all sorts of weird elements (from Oswald being quite a crack shot besides having nothing more than normal Marine riflery training, and used an old bolt action rifle to boot)--but we're getting no real explanation for them. The hospital visit was just a few hours for someone who was supposedly shot, and Trump--a guy who scurried away quickly back in 2016 when a random guy charged his stage--takes the time in middle of gunfire to do a fist pump for the cameras???? And Secret Service is all "ok, let him do the pose, then take him off the stage"??? Sets off the "WTF" bells.
I cannot express relief at his safety because this man has already caused a lot of needless deaths, and his safety means we are exposing countless others to death in the event he takes power again. It'd be like expressing relief that a serial killer is still alive.

However, he later attempted to overturn the election and people are dead now who wouldn’t have been if COVID had claimed him. Again, I don’t personally wish him ill or well.
