I assume the reason Democrats are reluctant to dethrone Schumer is that he’s good with big donors due to his long tenure representing NY and the big finance industry interests. In that sense, sure keep him on as the rainmaker but for folks sake just don’t let him do interviews or have any influence over public communications. Literally anyone would be a better spokesperson than a guy who thinks a “strong letter” gets anything but groans.
Not that any other Dem senators are much better—Booker and Van Hollen have their moments but there really isn’t anyone who sounds like they can authentically channel the base’s rage.
Thanks for the laughs. I had never seen the Fry & Laurie routine. "A stiffly worded letter. On cardboard." As an aside, Hugh Laurie's father Ran was an Olympic Gold medalist rower.
Good on you for calling out Schumer's absurdities.
Yeah, and much as Schumer sucks it’s not like the rest of his caucus gives much confidence.
Their Republican counterparts are assholes, but a lot of them are authentic assholes—you get the sense Ted Cruz would be a dick about buying an ice cream.
Schumer is a frickin embarrassment, and wtf is a strongly worded letter going to do? JACK SHIT. Nothing. Less than nothing. He needs to retire. I have had enough of this nonsense.
While I'm happy that articles of impeachment have been started against Trump, many Democrats, trying not to be targets, will vote against them while Republicans laugh.
The ship has sailed on the Dem strategy of standing back and letting Trump Co. implode. Lives are at stake now. Time for a strongly worded impeachment.
I’ve noticed that it’s the more jr members of congress that seem most willing to actually take action. I know that in the “good ole days” there would be a lot of behind closed doors negotiations and reaching across the aisle but those days are now gone thanks to the hostility that seems to drive the GQP.
What USED to work, no longer does. Dems need to get as aggressive as the GOP have. Let Chuckles roll on over into retirement because he’s no longer up for the job.
When I first saw Schumer’s latest threat to send a “strong letter, with eight strong questions,” I really did wonder if it was parody. (sorta like Lindsey Graham’s insane nomination yesterday of Donnie to be the new Pope.) Schumer is the poster child for clueless, old, way-too-comfortable pols who refuse to see when it’s time to go. He’s beyond ineffectual; he’s now an obstacle, which is the last thing Dems need in their own party.
BTW Stephen, thanks for the Meryl Streep “flaccid” moment. Death Becomes Her has long been one of my favorite movies.
I love that you referenced "Team America: World Police" (so funny!) and it is perfect. Someone should make one of those someday about this administration and it would come across just like that. it is so ridiculous but so tragic because it is happening now. 💔🤦🏽♀️☠️
Alright, as Schumer is Public Enemy Number One among Democrats (as I see more people complaining about him than talking about—say—Cory Booker's sit-in), where is the challenger? Remember how President Klan Robe operates, it is important to declare early and keep challenging often.
Use the same playbook utilized to get rid of Joe Biden. Democrats have shown they're at least good at that. Where is the challenger?
Step aside Chuck, retire, move over because strongly worded gets you laughed at.
Schumer needs to fuck off to the back bench yesterday. I support AOC primaring him!
Schumer must GO. HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE IS DOING AND IS TOTALLY OUT OF TOUCH WITH DEMOCRATS!!

“He who answers the eight questions (three questions!) may cross in safety”
Yuh-huh.

Okay, but let’s be real.
Chuck stays comfy in his “leadership” because nobody else wants the job.
After all, it’s not like we’re all sitting here clamoring for Senate Minority Leader Dick Durbin. Or the likes of Fetterman.
Yeah, and much as Schumer sucks it’s not like the rest of his caucus gives much confidence.

Yes, seniority is a problem that is actively hurting the Democratic Party.

This column is very strongly worded!!

Thorgy Thor's live version is equally hilarious.
