Comparing Manchin clinging to his Precious filibuster to Gollum clinging to his Precious ring is pure gold and on the money.

Manchin's racism just made him credulous.

If he wasn't so focused on being disrespectful to Kamala Harris he could've been a hero. Instead he will just retire in comfortbwith his coal baron millions. Because you know he is going to win from the pricktator's embrace of Gilded Age 2.0.

Any GOP that pushes for the SAVE act is effectively shooting themselves in the foot. More independents and DEMS have passports than those in Red states.

The Senate is undemocratic, like the electoral college.

It's almost like we never had a democracy.

Oh, wait, we never had a democracy!

Manchin can prattle on about how much he loves the filibuster but I think it’s obvious he is only a fan of it because it results in more moderate legislation. This sounds like not much of a distinction but it is, because on the base level the filibuster as it currently exists is pure nonsense. A supermajority requirement but only for some types of legislation? No sane person can defend that as a procedure.

If you truly believe a large enough minority (say 40% of Senators) should be able to have more leverage when the majority wants to pass something, you can allow them to extend debate fora limited time (say 90 days) hole they try to lobby their colleagues or the public. It would also apply to everything since every exception shows how dumb the rule is.

Instead we have this nonsense which will be undone the minute a majority cares enough to change it.

I know people these days like to complain about how unrepresentative the Senate is, and it's true-California and Wyoming DO get the same two votes in the Senate. But so does Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont, Delaware, New Hampshire, Hawaii-all states with very low populations compared to Texas. So while it is somewhat skewed and reform is necessary, it also works to smaller blue state benefit as well.
