As soon as I saw the title I knew exactly where you were referencing. As a new resident to Ohio I am paying close attention to the politics of my new home and I am very hopeful about Sherrod and that I could actually have a Democratic woman as governor.
From your pen to Buckeyes’ ballots. (Presumably completed in person since obviously mail in ballots are fraudulent!) His Ivy League elitism is sure to appeal to the many people that attend classes at the various community colleges and satellite campuses of Ohio universities that he seems to want to dispose of as being substandard.
Dems might pick up the seats in a strong year assuming Trump isn’t successful at some “ICE at the polls” caper. But long term they’d better figure out how to do better with the non-college vote because their slide has moved Ohio into the solid red column, leaving an incredibly shrinking map.
We'll see, the rules have changed in political science, now that there's people open to using sadopopulism despite the eventual danger.
I hate polls and I don't believe them; the only one that counts is on Election Day. And I saw a dedicated, ethical public servant in Sherrod Brown replaced with a used car dealer. I also saw people buying into blood libel about their innocent Haitian-American neighbors. So they will need to dig deep.
And in the end Republicans know how to understand the assignment and get past bigotry to make sure the unreconstructed party has more power.
It's true that trump is only interested in fighting, but he is too weak and too cowardly to fight himself - he gets others to do that for him, and too many people are stupid enough to do so. Ramaswamy is wrong if he really thinks that it's time to unite, it's time to fight the fascists, which is his party. And not just in his state, Ohio, but in all 50 states, and in all of the 5 inhabited territories of the USA.
With the surprise upset in Rumps backyard in FL (he voted by mail, btw) anything can happen. People are NOT happy with this country from the rich getting richer to this insane war to putting ICE at airports rather than real TSA agents. I certainly hope it’s a blood bath for the GOP. I feel like we’re in the movie Network- we’re mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.
If so, it would be the same dynamic that played out in my state VA. Spanberger was never considered an 'inspirational' candidate by the base but she beat creepy Winsome-Sears by 15 fucking points...A literal political landslide. It also didn't help that Winsome-Sears gave off a STRONG 'Ben Carson' vibe
"with eight percent of voters undecided (you’d never want to order a meal with these people."
Ain't THAT the truth!
Honestly, I'm 100% in favor of undecideds just noping out of voting altogether. Anyone too fucking stupid to be able to choose between fascism and not-fascism is too stupid to vote, and when they DO they invariably vote for the fascist. Just stay home and self soothe binge watching old episodes of Touched By An Angel FFS
But yeah, I am 100% in favor of mandatory voting...I mean we have mandatory jury duty, and for the first 200 years of this country we had a standing mandatory draft where you were expected to give your life for you country FFS! Adding mandatory voting to the very small list of mandatory civic duties should be a cinch...Of course one party would cease to exist if we did that which is why it would be fought tooth and nail.
One 'out' that could be offered to the petulant contrarian crowd could be that every ballot includes the option to vote 'no confidence' i.e. 'none of the above'...You just still have to 'show up' (or mail in)
If we have mandatory voting, making election days holidays, or giving people paid time off from work to vote if they have to work that day would help. Also - more polling places to vote, and mail in voting.
That one party you mention wants to go in the opposite direction - to limit voting to only the privileged few, which, by no coincidence, would be their voters.
I live in Ohio. Husted's connection with the First Energy crisis keeps coming out and if Brown hammers that Husted took bribes to raise energy prices, it can sink Husted. Energy costs have absolutely skyrocketed and the legislature is pushing to build data centers, which locally people have been protesting. My usage is relatively the same but my bill was $75 more than last year. Some ppl are getting bills over 1k during January when we had our deep long cold snap. Husted is as crooked as they come and Brown can win on this issue. People are pissssssseeeeeddd
Less hopeful about Acton. Maybe if the Big 3 cities can increase turnout. Have no idea how Trump lost in Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati but somehow won the state. It's gotta be the surrounding burb counties.
The per-usage cost of Nat Gas nearly doubled this winter relative to last ($1.07/CCF), and the trend lines going forward aren't very encouraging. And diesel prices are up more than 40% from a year ago and still rising. I expect there will be a long tail on energy and transportation price spikes that will still be working through the system come November.
Ohio has been the football Lucy yanks away for a while now, I can't get emotionally invested in it. I have family there and when I visit I like going out for a drive or a bike ride on Sunday morning, the roads are empty because everyone is at church.
We're in semi-rural central Ohio, and we've seen a lot of the semi-permanent Trump banners/billboards/flags come down in the past year. The performative "moral outrage" against Democrats and their woke socialism seems to be eroding in the public sphere.
Not everyone - my oldest and her family live in Ohio and don't go to church, nor do any of their friends that I know of. But they live in Shaker Heights, near Cleveland, so that may make a difference.
They are here in Northern VT, but admittedly the parking lots are small.
I’ve wanted to go in to see the insides and the windows of some but don’t want to intrude. Visiting churches just to see the architecture seems very much not done here, as opposed to visiting the old buildings in cities. But aside from the town halls, they’re often the only other big building in town, and some of them are so interesting to look at from the outside that it piques my curiosity. Then I think, not every space is for every one, and gawking at someone’s place of worship seems wrong on a few levels.
While I'm skeptical about Ohio overall, Brown is a known candidate who still has a lot of goodwill in the state. I wouldn't be that hopeful about a generic Dem there, but Brown probably has a realistic shot in a midterm election with an unpopular president. Fingers crossed, I always liked him.

How is one simultaneously a Hindu and a "monotheist"? I'm not a professional theologian but that seems contradictory to me.
Also, a minor quibble, history and precedent mean nothing now. Since 2016. It's all gone sideways.

I don't know, I kinda think we should go the other way and make voting mandatory. But AFTER we get money out of politics.
I believe that Australia has mandatory voting, and that's a country that is sorta like the U.S. They even speak a form of English!
Mostly I was just venting
(:

Totally 💯

Yup
I actually think the “privileged few” would now favor the current Democratic electorate.

I’m happy to hear it.

Not everyone, everywhere, but enough to make a difference in traffic.
That's true. But it can also be people sleeping in on a Sunday morning.
Those parking lots are pretty full at those curches.
Interesting, because the church parking lots aren’t full around here (Upstate SC).
They are here in Northern VT, but admittedly the parking lots are small.
