As a gay, um, no thanks to Cruz in the ‘closet.’ Also, utterly craven as a cuck for Trump, who: insulted his wife as ‘ugly’; perpetuated a conspiracy theory about his father killing JFK; and whose own daughter recoils at his touch.
“kept foreign leaders like Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un in check” (unfortunately, no breathalyzer tests are required before casting a ballot)."

Allred said that despicable remark in which he says he agrees with Cruz about trans kids. Because he's "Christian". And you have no comment on that? I find that very disappointing. Allred has lost my respect and monetary support.
I'd gone into more detail in an earlier draft, but I do agree that it makes no sense to side with Cruz on this issue (either morally or politically). I think he performed better on the subject at the debate.
I am also disappointed that Allred agreed with Cruz (about anything!), but I will still support him. This issue is personal for me -- I have a grand-nephew (grade-school age) who may someday decide to transition; right now, he simply has beautiful long hair and a very eclectic taste in clothing. I don't know how he'll be dressing in a few years, but I think whatever he decides to be, his chances to be that are much better if Allred is elected. I will not help Cruz retain his seat in any way whatsoever, and that includes by throwing my vote away.
When I was living in DC I once saw Ted Cruz and his staff getting into an SUV and was shocked to see the Senator didn’t leave a slime trail behind him.
I certainly hope that Allred wins and I have been donating to his campaign. I thought that after Jan 6, we would never hear from Trump again. After Cancun, I figured that Cruz was done and in a normal time, that would have been the end of Cruz's political career. Yet hear we are. Allred may have a slight lead over Cruz, but Trump is leading Harris in Texas by 6 points - a lot of people would have to split their ticket for Allred to win.
I believe that Cruz’ internal polling was 48/47. That was before the debate. I imagine he has nightmares where Colin Allred eats him.
Like in nearly every state, the population of TX has changed since 2016 and 2020. And women, even conservative women, are furious.
I’ve listened to a lot of TX focus groups. Even the two-time Trump voters hate Ted. If there were a word cloud from those focus groups, the biggest word would be “Cancun.”
It’s tough to predict how that plays out, but if there’s ever been a good moment to get shed of Ted, it’s in three weeks.
Yes, some rough math would say that at leas 5 percent or more of self-described independents are conservative and are not "gettable" for Allred, but if he can win over enough indies who like Trump for other reasons that aren't strictly right-wing orthodoxy, then maybe he has a shot.
"mostly because they conflate c̴a̴u̴s̴a̴t̴i̴o̴n̴ ̴w̴i̴t̴h̴ ̴c̴o̴r̴r̴e̴l̴a̴t̴i̴o̴n̴ bullshit with reality)"
Fixed that for you, Stephen. even giving fat nixon a mulligan for the pandemic, his economy did worse than either Obama's second term or Biden's term. He brayed like the ass he is that 'it was tremendous, greatest of all time!' but no, it wasn't.
One of Allred's most powerful attributes is that he is an empty suit. Beto lost to Cruz because he had actual positions, and people went into the voting booth and had to choose between the two candidates. This time, this choice is basically an up/down vote on Cruz. And Cruz has anti-charisma. Against someone as toxic as Cruz, you want the election to be about him, not both of you.
We won't know till everyone votes. Republicans do understand power over all, even if the person is shitty (call it the McConnell Principle). Cancun Cruz should've been gone last time. Allred is at least running a smooth campaign and apparently hasn't had any *major* bad position statements like Beto did with guns, so who knows?
Just make sure people turn out and we leave it all out on the road.
Call me Pollyanna, but I think that Allred will win, narrowly, but a win is a win. Sadly, the same can't be said for Tester, unless the polls truly are fucked up, and we have a Blue wave election. As for Cruz, just seeing him sweat it out is satisfying because he's such a turd, even Moscow Mitch hates him.
Amen! I honestly can't imagine how Ted Cruz ever got enough votes to win an election -- NOBODY likes Fidel Cancun lol -- but I guess maybe it mostly demonstrates just how well the Republiscum have elections in Texas rigged and locked down...
For legislative races the most important thing is which party has the majority. Even if a legislator is a wonderful person, or a total asshole, and even if they favor every substantive policy you like, or oppose them, what matters more than anything is whether their election means the party you like or hate gets to control what even gets a vote.
So conservative voters who despise Cruz will still hold their noses to vote for him, because they want McConnell's successor to run the floor and not Schumer.
I've lived in Texas for over 40 years (in Houston and Austin) and do know how this works. I suppose this is more a case of not wanting to believe that so many people in this state could hold their noses long enough to vote for him without dying of asphyxiation.
Also, most people who haven't watched Texas politics up close and personal don't understand just how rigged elections are now. In the 90s, there were still liberals (like Ann Richards) getting elected to statewide office. Jim Hightower was even our AG commissioner. (Sid Miller is the current one, and he's a real peach.) Then W cheated his way into the presidency and started a couple of wars (one of which made his VP even richer).
Texas statewide elections (gov, lite gov, AG, etc) are all off-year, so in 2002, the GOP all ran on 9/11, 24/7, and the GOP picked up a majority in the Texas lege for the first time ever, which let them do the redistricting in 2003. Since then, most TX liberals have been screwed.
Rural votes count for more in elections for state representation; voting is easier in areas where the GOP is in charge, and harder in places like Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas, which tend to be more liberal. (Oh, and Abbott took over management of Houston/Harris Co's voting after the 2022 election on a pretext.) The AG is a crook who regularly purges the voter rolls before an election -- he must be running a little scared, because he also recently decided to go after LULAC. In a state where the voters are at least evenly split between parties, with maybe even a slight liberal edge, it's rarely even close. Currently, the state Senate is almost 2/3 Republican.
There are no dirty tricks these guys consider beneath them. While you are correct about the way legislative elections generally work, there's a whole lot more to it than that.
Ok, good point. I'd also say only in Texas, but there are so many others, even beyond Trump and his sidekick... I mean, Rick Scott could play the psychopathic CEO in a blockbuster, and it's hard to top Kristi Noem in animal-slaughtering villainy. KS has Kobach -- nobody likes that dumbass waste-of-space either, driving around in his red-white-&-blue Jeep with the [fake] rear-mounted gun, looking for... I don't know, probably something about evil wokeism (wokeness?)... and still, somehow, even he is more likable than Ted... New state slogan: "Texas, where the assholes are bigger".
Even if I were a Republican, I'd want Cruz to lose. He adds nothing and even makes his *entire brand* how much he irritates leadership. Why would GOP leaders lift a finger to help him? You could get a Katie Britt type who's a team player and votes the same way.
Unfortunately, it’s another mirage. There are way more registered MAGAs than Dems in Texas.
Sigh….😔
“Senator Cruz was hiding in a supply closet.”

It's just like living in the middle ages. Oh joy.

Al Franken said it best: I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz.
"Why do people take an instant dislike to Ted Cruz? It saves time."
😂
“ — a sort of affirmative action for assholes.”
Anothe astounding bon mot SER!
Obligatory Fuck Ted Cruz here.

"Independents" are just republicans who like weed. Fuck Ted Cruz.
I always said that about libertarians.
Not necessarily.
they are in Red Dumbfuckistan like Tex-ass and here in the Terrible Sand Kingdom of Arizonastan
Well, that’s unfortunate. It’s not the case with the Independents I know of here in very-red Tennessee.

Can’t really say anything kinder than that. 😂

He manages to win the primary and from there he can rely on partisan advantage
