As someone who has to get MRIs every 3-4 months, the idea that he doesn't know what area they scanned is crazy. I'm just joe nobody and he's the president but every time I get an MRI I have to fill out a questionnaire and one of the questions is "what is the reason for your MRI today?" Maybe that's just the state I live in but I don't think so. The hand thing is weird. You can start an IV in a lot of places that wouldn't be visible in a suit. Or better yet, get a port inserted and it would be mostly invisible and a lot easier for whatever infusion he's getting and nobody would have a clue. Doing it on the hand is almost adververtising it.
Trump’s clearly deteriorating (funny how people who have been politicians for decades don’t have melted hand syndrome from too many handshakes but ten years as a politician and Trump now needs MRIs because he’s shaking hands too much) but I think it’ll be a slow painful process…for the country.
The good news about a Vance presidency (if Trump DOES knock off before 2029) is his total lack of charisma and people skills will make it impossible for him to even lead a small staff let alone a fascist movement. Never rule out someone like Jizzy Divan because Republican voters always understand the assignment. And people just need an excuse—any tiny one will do—to vote for the Republican. The usual Republican voters aren’t enough—Trump’s value to the party is that he regularly turned out those who don’t normally vote. And as midterms and special elections keep showing, they won’t bother if Trump isnt on the ballot. Vance will sink like a ton of bricks.
I wish I could share in your optimism about a Vance presidency, but I would imagine that the zombie remnants of the MAGA movement will rally around him after their cult leader is finally gone.
It's all guesswork at this point, and it may be that the Orange King will drag the whole mess down with him, but all those tech oligarchs and oil billionaires will want to strongly back anyone who offers them the promise of no regulation and an inside lane to cut their taxes and hand them subsidies. Vance will be on a short leash, and it remains to be seen whether he can keep from stepping down hard on his own member. No one will ever mistake him for charismatic.
Part of the thing about Trump is his strengths are entirely personal—he manipulates the media and entertains his followers and gets away with what other Republicans simply can’t. One reason Republicans have been so afraid to cross him was the constant fear that he’d take his fans outside the party, because those fans like him but don’t really care about the GOP.
With him gone, the GOP would still be a nasty fascist mess but without their cult of personality it loses its ability to get away with what they have been. Vance and Miller would try to keep it going but they’d be hobbled. And a lot of those (media, pols, kingmakers) who enabled Trump would turn on them.
My thing is, the media wouldn't be manipulated so easy by this moldering conman if they didn't want to be manipulated. As it happens their owners (and at least a number of the crappy both-sides pundits) are on the same team.
I wholeheartedly agree, but with one big caveat. The GOP as a party yearns for authoritarianism, so they will eventually find a political figure to rally around, and that figure will have to sell his soul to the big money to get their support. It remains to be seen whether the rank and file will join with the kingmakers, and there will be a lot of chaos to sort through to reach an end. Hopefully the Dems will capitalize on the chaos and build on their temporary advantage, but they have plenty of history of blowing the lead.
