Pretty rich for Kapo Miller to opine on a Catholic’s interpretation of what the Christmas should look like

He's upset because Black people were entertaining rather than serving canapés to the guests.

I hope they stopped and frisked them on the way out! (Remember there was that one Black family who just stayed in the White House for 8 years before they finally moved on.)

What a fantastic thing for the Biden's to do! Someone should have carried a burning torch of sage while they danced, to rid those halls of leftover Melania vibes.

The Rankin-Bass people had better sense than to put a visage like Miller's on one of their puppets. The Burgermeister was a bad guy, but he wasn't a nazi, FFS.

"Put one foot in front of the other," sure, but not goose-stepping in jackboots.

Also? That was fun. I want more of the same, please.

Thanks for sharing the video, SER!

(although I'll be cranky and say that I hate when videographers don't show dancers' feet consistently, *especially* for tap dance)

It's so weird that the folks who think tap dancing amongst Christmas decorations resembles The Hunger Games or A Clockwork Orange are the very same folks whose ideal world most resembles those two movies. Really if this video showed hot young people hunting each other down like animals in the same setting, they'd be all over that.

I think these people have never seen a performance of The Nutcracker. It is full of dancers in outlandish costumes, which is what I think the Hunger Games comparison refers to. I can’t even imagine how they think it was like Clockwork Orange 😵‍💫

There were bewbs in Clockwork Orange and ultraviolence. There were also clips of Nazi films which Alex identified with. (I think they kept rewinding the bewbs part and never got to the rest of the movie)

I am familiar with Clockwork Orange, but I still don't see how a wholesome tap dance routine with elaborate costumes is at all similar. Maybe the part where Alex and his droogs were dancing/beating up a victim to Singin in the Rain???

Oh no. How ever could Dr. Biden showcase such joyful and talented people dancing in the People's House? How dare she let them brighten the world this Christmas? How dare she put the former FLOTUS's murder trees and icy halls to shame? Will you please just look at those smiles! I dare you to watch them and not smile back in return!

>> American enslavers denied Black people access to African percussion instruments, so the enslaved turned to percussive dancing <<

I did not know that, but am also entirely unsurprised.

As for the dance -- Clara was note perfect! RatBro worked, but for some reason I thought that he should be in some color other than that dark, attractive blue. Not that I know what color would be better, but still. Something more narcissisticly attention grabbing feels more right both for the Rat King generally but also for the Rat Bro portrayal in this dance. I thought the Nutcracker was good and worked but I would have liked to see more wooden movements, at least for part of their appearance on screen.

And, of course, they used the pillars and trees extremely effectively during the long shots. The narrator/through person (I don't know who this would be in the Nutcracker cast) was wonderful.

Anyway, thanks for another great post.

>>The shuffle originates from enslaved West Africans living in colonial North America. Lacking a common language, [enslaved people]used music and dance to communicate with each other and preserve their histories. Many plantation owners outlawed dancing. Since dancing was defined as lifting one’s foot off the ground, some [enslaved] communities circumvented this rule by shuffling their feet. Many traditional African-American dances feature the shuffle along with other movements.<< Glimmerglass Blog Post 2019

I have heard this before but this before but this is the first time I’ve seen it referenced.

These dancers were phenomenal! Hunger Games? Clockwork Orange? What the hell? Those were great movies that were violent and depressing looks at society gone mad, but the tap dancers were filled with joy. Bah humbug indeed to the GOP who belong in the land of misfit toys.
