Additional points for my governor: Has not appeared on podcasts with far-right doofuses, has not embussened trans people despite Trump and McCormick running disgusting anti-trans ads in PA for a solid month in October 2024.
You are quite right that the **way** in which an emerging progressive sentiment needs to be said is integral to **what** is said. Younger voters in particular and quite wise about countering fascism and starve-the-poor-ism with actual, um, language, not vetted by aging PR professionals.
I love to see it. However, I really don't like Shapiro's unfettered (no pun intended lol) zionism. Even as a Jew myself, I have had a hard time criticizing Israel in the past, but recently I just cannot support Zionism after what they're doing and have done, and to see Shapiro being such a stooge for Bibi is disgusting, and he shouldn't be anywhere near a federal position of power.
I think things are changing on that front. A lot of people like myself were pro-Israel for a while but the murderous policies of their criminal PM have soured us. It’s getting through to rank and file Democrats (particularly among Jewish ones who are more personally appalled as they feel they were scammed) and the “give Israel whatever it wants” consensus is cracking.
This really pisses me off. Shapiro has decided he wants to be the Dem nominee, so now "he’s started to play for keeps." Fuck that noise. I am sick to death of politicians who only take "a principaled stand" when they think it personaly benefits them. Shapiro will have to do better than this.
But I like the fact that someone thinks “beat them in the fucking face” is a winning strategy together the nomination. It means the old consensus of “bend over fir Republicans so voters will reward us for being so nice” is going out the drain.
Especially after last Tuesday. Rumor has it that Senate Dems had a meeting to determine who would fall on their sword to vote for this abomination, not to stop it. At this point, the only "no" votes that I believe are true "no"votes are Warren's and Sanders". BTW, falling on your sword is supposed to be a sacrifice for the greater good, not for the even worse.
I just became an even bigger fan of Josh Shapiro. THIS is what we need—someone who, in public, shows how pissed off he is at Republicans' intentional cruelty, especially when it comes straight from the top. Seriously, what kind of shit leadership goes to court to protect their "right" to keep food from hungry citizens!?
While I like Newsom's ability to troll trump, I still feel a bit of an "ick" about him from his chummy podcosts with RWNJs and him flippantly throwing trans people under the bus. I really like Pritzger and Shapiro, though; do we dare hope the Democratic Party will have the good sense to nominate one of them—both fighters—come 2028?
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Agree with just about everything you say. My problem is I like Newsom, Shapiro AND Pritzger!
(Also think I read somewhere that the Founders at one point considered a “team” of Leaders: wish we could have such today, but egos would get in the way. So maybe something like Lincoln’s “Team of Rivals”?)
🤔And to amend my comment about the “Team of Rivals”, I also like Chris Murphy a lot.
Frankly, I could add still others. I wish there could be a real team effort comprised of real experts and real patriots to help run the country.
That’s what Cabinets were traditionally supposed to be and not just have the Cabinet heads all be toadies, phonies, giant donors buying their way in for their egos, to support their conflict of interests projects, to install their own non-democratic non-republic regime, etc.
Democrats should set up a ranked voting system for their primaries AND have primary voting all happen in the same week where the results aren't revealed until AFTER all votes are in. As an example, The way its set up now, Elizabeth Warren wasn't even ON the primary ballot by the time California got to vote...We CAN set up how our primaries are run ANY FUCKING WAY WE WANT. That we have chosen to use SUCH undemocratic methods (including our own 'electorate' model per delegates is fucking SHAMEFUL. We can't blame republicans for that
I agree with you in principle but how would we get all the states to agree to hold primaries at the same time? That’s a lot of coordination of boards of elections or else running a separate primary from other elections taking place in states, which sounds pricey.
the same way we got them to agree to hold federal elections at the same time
kidding
Seriously I think you just DO it...Whatever reason they set it up the way they did is no longer valid. And the good news is that even in the REDDEST of states, republicans have NO say in how we run OUR primaries. We are the only obstacle to fixing this. Last POTUS election is the first time I REALLY paid attention to the whole process and it literally goes on for almost 3 fucking months...In like 4 or 5 separate heats, CA being in the last heat
Thank you for this post about a Democrat who is fighting! It's good to know that some Dem leaders are indeed fighting, although they all seem to be white male governors. Some Dems in Congress are fighters, but unfortunately, they aren't in leadership positions. Shapiro has picked the right fight at the right time, and being a white male, can afford to get angry in public. I love how he quoted the Bible and threw Vance's supposed faith right into his teeth! And from the OT - does have fire and brimstone, but there is plenty of helping those in need in it, which people seem to forget.
Spot on. You know that any non-white non-male starts at a disadvantage, nice to see someone who gets that special-white-boy-treatment use it to push against these twisted, angry fucks.
There’s got to be a term for Democrats willing to fight with cunning and ruthlessness—I’ll use the term “Sicilian” in reference to the consiglieri Genco Abbandando from the Godfather book, as his crafty “wartime” counsel served Don Vito well. (I know these Dems aren’t literally Sicilian, Shapiro is Jewish and I’ll assume Newsom is Episcopalian without looking it up—but we can all be Sicilian in spirit when fighting a fascist regime just as Sicilians fought the Moors, Norse, and OG fascists).
Schumer and Co are no Sicilians, they aren’t even Tom Hagens, it seems their whole goal is to insulate dipshit voters from the consequences of electing Republicans and folding at every sign of opposition. We need fighters who will use the media even while openly battling against that same media, who call out Republicans as scumbags, and worry less about not offending voters than about saying what they really think. (Clearly offending voters doesn’t keep them from voting for you, notice the Hispanics that trended steadily towards Trump and guess what, Trump repeatedly insults white non college voters too—when you try not to offend you just look fake and weak).

He also supports murdering Palestinian children, so I'm not too stoked on putting him in charge.
We need more Shapiros and less Fettermans.
And I cannot believe that they caved into the GOP again. Fuck!

Even callous zionists can be right twice a day, like a stopped clock.
"Everything about him is fake — except the rubbish beard, which is unfortunately real."
Hey man...No dissing on Usha!
