As a lifelong suburbanite, I apologize that I don’t know what a gravel pit is and hope someone will explain it. Every picture I find shows a body of water. Did she throw carcasses into a body of water, where they would certainly bloat and rise? Can I be more horrified than I already am?
She recently bragged that her two-year-old granddaughter has a rifle and a shotgun. Here’s hoping the little cutie catches MeeMaw by the gravel pit one day.
The gravel pit might be a small quarry or natural depression with loose gravel though I imagine they do collect water. Throwing carcasses in water would be in line with someone like her.

Having grown up in SD, I don't find this story surprising. People commonly consider animals to be no more than tools. When I was around 10 or 11, I spent an afternoon secretly working with the colt of a family friend to save it from the glue factory. They couldn't train it so they were going to kill it. As grotesque as it may be, it's a common attitude. When they came out and saw me leading the horse with a bridle and a saddle on its back, they kept the horse.
What really chills me about this story is her descriptions of the dog when it acted in ways she considered made it worthless. When she talked about how it was having the time of its life instead of hunting and that it was joyful after it killed the chicken, it's particularly sick. It seems that that is what she hated the dog for. She hated happiness. And to go get a goat to satisfy her bloodlust afterward is really psychopathic. That's not doing the hard thing. That's sadism.
this seems to be a running motif with the wingnuts. If it annoys or disappoints you, kill it. That is their go-to remedy for all of life's little sorrows; don't try to fix it, just reach for your gun. Bet she's right popular with her neighbors. Who doesn't like an armed sadist with a hair-trigger temper?

There are many unpleasant messy jobs one has to do in life. Killing your dog should not ever be on that list.
