Atlanta-based freelance journalist (and fellow University of Georgia alum) Zaid Jilani joins me for a special midterm election edition of the podcast. As appropriate for our background, we discussed the Georgia Senate race, where Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff is cruising to re-election, and the Georgia gubernatorial race, where former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms remains in a dead heat with Republican billionaire Rick Jackson. Zaid offers some compelling reasons why Bottoms is underperforming Ossoff. I just hope Ossoff’s coattails, Donald Trump’s abysmal approval numbers, and Black voter rage over the Supreme Court gutting the Voting Rights Act is enough to get Bottoms across the finish line.
This is one of those days where I can’t predict what tomorrow’s piece will look like. We’ll both just have to wait and see.
