“While I have been clear in my support of Israel’s right to self-defense,” she said. “I have also repeatedly said and continue to believe that Palestinian civilian casualties should be avoided and that more humanitarian aid must go to the people of Gaza.”

"Eh... So you know... let's try not to kill so many innocent people... oh! It's really helpful after you kill a lot of innocent people to just put a gun on their bodies and call them Hamas. I got that idea from the chief of the NYPD union."

"Guns have made us so free we might never gather in public again!" Pithy, mildly humorous and right on target, as always, Stephen.

I never fail to wonder about the absolute adherence to the archaic text of the Second Amendment in light of, say, the extreme flexibility of the Fourteenth. Part of our seriously f-ed culture of guns as signifiers, I guess.

Like several other readers, I do have to stand up for the wings. Have you had them at the alleged birth place, the Anchor Bar? Original wings, draft beer and live jazz is an almost unbeatable combination...

I love buffalo wing sauce! I probably would enjoy them at the Anchor Bar. That sounds great!

“...A woman was murdered and 22 people were injured”

THANK YOU for writing “murdered”. I’m so sick of the news stories about mass slaughters that say the victims “died” or “lost their lives” as if their lives were something they carelessly misplaced rather than something violently taken from them.

It’s putting the fault on the victims ("How careless of them!") instead of calling the killers the murderers that they are.

Why is my city catching strays from the governor that was actually born in it (yes, Kathy Hochul was born in Buffalo and was a local politician here for many years).

WTF!

There's never going to be a good outcome of the Israel/Gaza conflict because of the intractable religious nature of it, and you also have a delicate situation between a sovereign nation (Israel) and presumably its biggest arms supplier.

But then there's the nuance. I doubt there's an order from the USA that says "Use these to wipe out Gaza." We don't give Netanyahu marching orders. But that isn't going to really play online.

Given how well Murc's Law will be assigned here I think at the end of the day (despite this conflict being live for decades) only Joe Biden will pay a political price. I honestly think Netanyahu survives this despite the widespread condemnation of his brutal tactics. Death and destruction will continue to be the order of the day in Gaza, and a large bloc of people here in the USA will just vote for someone to make it even worse because of their Rapture fanfiction.

I wrote about Black history in Wonkette earlier this week, so it seems fair play you’re taking on the Canadian beat.

The part about just never going to another large community gathering, parade,. concert, sporting event etc already is out of the question for me because I don't trust any of these MFs any more. So, I already have ceded many key human social experiences because of the ammosexuals. Goddamn it!! Warnock is correct, there is no inch of our American lives that really is safe from some garden variety sick MF now. Jesus can keep his guns at church 🤣😅 but not any of these everyday sick, sick bastards. Or the grocery store, spa, school, airport, etc. Not sure what my point is but I want to apologize to young people about this.

The constant conflation of "Hamas" and "Gaza's Civilian Population" from some of Israel's supporters is ghoulish but I suppose that it's easier than acknowledging that Israel has a real problem here. Absorbing Palestinian Arabs as full Israeli citizens isn't likely to work, even aside from Israel's not wanting to go from a majority Jewish state to one that is almost half-Arab--it's also unlikely the two populations will live peacefully as co-citizens without several generations to air out the bad blood.

A two-state solution sounds more plausible, but even there Israel isn't sure they can sufficiently guard their border from future attacks. They'd need to ensure that the Palestinians choose a government that will want peaceful relations with Israel and will crack down on terrorism, but that's unlikely with so many Arabs hating the Israelis. And the status quo is obviously no better--seemingly the worst of options 1 and 2.

So in frustration and unwillingness to do the hard and time consuming work of figuring out how to achieve peaceful coexistence between these two groups, Israel's boosters are now in the "fuck it, bomb them" stage of things.

I was gonna say something about how I begin to suspect it’s something in the water down there, but the truth is Israel Palestine politics gets a bit… erm… mass murdery on occasion here too.

I dunno there’s much I can type here is gonna ease us back to some kinda relative sanity real imminently…

I would however like to dial back the temperature on this potential international incident by reassuring Governor Hochul that if there is a plan drafted in Ottawa to invade Buffalo and seize all the wings, I for one have not been read in.

It’s entirely possible I’m just out of the loop, mind. (True fact: everyone in Canada does not know each other… there’s like this one guy in Prince Rupert who has yet to send me a Christmas card, what the fuck Amos?) Anyway, I think it realistically very unlikely we’d invade over such an issue, as we long ago acquired through espionage the capability to combine wings, butter, and hot sauce ourselves.

Dammit. I probably shouldn’t have typed that in public. Now the Cubans probably have the technology too.

I am rather fond of the wings myself. Though rarely indulge these days. On account of wishing to live a little longer, mostly. How much Frank’s hot sauce I still go through on a daily basis however I’m not going to disclose on the very real risk my GP might be reading this.

(She does keep an eye, obviously. Has to. We’re on the same curling team.)

The US going to war with Canada is a mistake...Canada has defeated the US in FOUR wars: the American War of Independence, the War of 1812, the Aroostook War, and the San Juan de Fuca Island War. However, the only casualty in the latter was a pig.

Canada also inflicted the 1965 and 2003 power blackouts on the Northeast United States.
