“When someone tells you who they are, believe them the first time.” — Maya Angelou

I used to think Chris Sununu was okay for a Republican, but now I know he’s a weasel. He’s trying to position himself as a future presidential candidate or someone of consequence in the future Trump regime. He’s delusional. And a two-faced weasel!

So if hedidn’t mean he plans to end elections, why hasn’t he clarified (i.e. walked back) that statement? Or did I miss that? Or is it enough the media is “clarifying” it for him?

One of my clients from the old days would read a letter or filing from the other side and ask me: “ What do they mean?” My invariable response was: “What they said.” We aren’t mind readers and have to conclude they meant what they said.

Spot on. As I've said elsewhere, possibly the most irritating habit of the MAGAverse is "translating" for me...

I saw and heard what he said. 'Nuffsaid.

"is if we seek to exist.

should read "cease to exist" I presume.

He probably did mean that he wouldn't be on the ballot after 2024 because *he'll* be dead or in prison, so who gives a flying fuck, not Donald, that's certain, but the "we fixed it" part means that the "new arrangement"will be such that the dictatorship will automatically be passed down in whatever diabolical scheme The Project has designed.

The main point here is Trump doesn’t have the gift of making lol jokes. That the MSM excuses his racist, homophobic and dictatorial language as something other than it really is makes me barf. Trying to pretend Trump is kidding is an act of desperation to keep the horse and pony show going.

All the right wing pundits, and self-styled journalists trying to make the case that PAB doesn't mean the words that we hear him saying are the same people who were claiming that PAB's behavior after he lost the election in 2020 (refusing to concede, interfering with the Joe Biden's transition team, contesting election results without any basis, claiming he actually won, conspiring to overturn the election results) were all just a normal response, and we should all just give him the time he needed to process. I guess they think we forgot who this asshole is.

Trump got more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016 (pray that doesn’t happen again) but still lost to Biden, which pissed him off and probably contributed to his lack of respect for voters.

Anyway, it feels like William Shirer in the 1930’s writing back to the States, over and over, “This Hitler guy means it! Wake up!”

When the fascist MAGA takeover of our democracy happens, it will be due to the willfully stupid centrist pundits.

And the theocratic scotus. American Taliban indeed.

“He doesn’t mean it like that!” You know what? I’m not interested in taking that risk.

NPR went even further and completely restated what he said:

“Speaking at a gathering of religious conservatives, Donald Trump said if he’s reelected, Christian-related concerns will be ‘fixed’ so much so that they would no longer need to be politically engaged.”

Fucking NPR...

Nice Polite Republicans. They pulled this shit during The Fanta Menance's reign of terror. I stopped listening and donating to my local public station Broadcasting NPR.

I think you meant "cease to exist: in this line, maybe edit it?

"The only way Republicans would believe they are safe from the “radical Left” is if we seek to exist."

“He will grudgingly tolerate the democratic system as a means to regain power, but he’s already proven that he will eagerly reject democracy when he wants to retain power.“

This is it, in a nutshell.

“Journalist Michael Tracey argued that Trump was obviously joking during his speech”

But it doesn’t matter. If journalists sincerely want to speculate about nuances in Donald’s speeches, they’d have picked up by now that once he says something idiotic (Hannibal Lecter, electric sharks, etc.) the subsequent widespread ridicule of the idiocy only makes him insist it was a “great story” that everyone really thought was clever and charming. He’s too stupid and psychologically damaged to ever admit that what he said is insane, so instead he owns it, doubles down on it, repeats it, and elaborates upon it. In the case of “Dictator for one day,” which is what he actually said, by now it’s become “Dictator for Life,” and so now that’s what he’s embracing. Same thing with his “you won’t have to vote anymore” theme.

Right, because noted wit and public intellectual Donald Jackass Trump is known for his sparkling repartee and wry sense of humor. The press, despite the history of the 20th century, keeps insisting that we not believe the evidence of our eyes and ears.

Trump is a wanna-be despot. He’s not subtle. He has said it over and over and over again. The Republican Party has signed off on, laughed off, or explained away every alarming utterance he has shit out of his mouth hole like so much verbal diarrhea. He has been given license to destroy a 248 year old democracy by that kind of apathy and stubbornness. And for what? Tax breaks? Fear of a browner country? Women? Changing demographics? The rise of an historical underclass? Immigrants? All of the above? That kind of toxicity catches up to everyone eventually. One word out of step with the Sun(downing) King and things will get ugly for them too. The shortsightedness and obstinacy is breathtaking. I am heartened to see Democrats not taking the high road for a change and willing to get at least a little bit dirty. You need to meet the enemy where he is and it ain’t up above. Kamala, and her campaign, know exactly where to hit the demented old fuck. Time to invest in popcorn futures.

Thank you, Stephen! At this point it’s hard to make the case that the media is naive or clueless or just falling victim to a trap. As you so masterfully point out there is a whole lot of evidence the MSM is choosing to ignore.

My guess is there are a lot of mainstream journalists who do know what’s happening but won’t sound the alarm out of fear of losing their jobs.

Thanks, Martha Raddatz for bringing on that spineless annelid Sununu to Trumpsplain. I couldn't believe it, all this winking and nodding. I've been saying this around the substacks, but what someone needs to ask Trump is this--and be sure to put it like this: "The polls show you're going to win in 2024 in a landslide. If your work isn't done in 2024, will you stay in office?"
