Today marks the 10th anniversary of the 𝗣𝗨𝗟𝗦𝗘 𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗔𝗖𝗥𝗘, the largest targeted attack against the LGBTQ+ community in U.S. history. On June 12, 2016, 49 young Americans, out for an evening of dancing in Orlando, FL, were murdered by religious bigotry and hate.
Funny story. I'm pretty sure I saw this in theatres in the 80's but by the mid 2000's it had been playing forever on VH1, edited, of course. My 10ish year old kid, who loved it, had a friend over for a sleepover so we rented the DVD. We popped it in and I realized pretty quickly that maybe it wasn't the right choice for a couple of elementary school kids. I let them watch it though.
ETA: That English Beat album is fire from start to finish, one of the greats.
ETA again, lol: I knew someone that was in the band Save Ferris.
I've been a huge fan of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" since it was released and still watch it and laugh every time it comes on TV (no silly NBC censorship here! Middle of the afternoon and you know exactly where Cameron could put that lump of coal to make a diamond). Of course, I was a lot older than you when the movie was released (I was a couple months shy of giving birth to my second kid) but I wasn't too old to remember high school or to appreciate John Hughes.
I hope you and the fam enjoy your trip over to the wonderful nation I've adopted as my new home. It's a great place to visit, there's history around every corner no matter where you go. 𝐵𝑜𝑛 𝑣𝑜𝑦𝑎𝑔𝑒!
I must be the only person who didn't like that movie, lol. I found Ferris Buellar to be obnoxious and destructive, and that doesn't equal funny to me. I admit, though, that I am in the minority.
My daughter is a "Ferris" fan, but the "fucked up rich kid steals the fancy car" movie that resonated with me was "Risky Business". Yes, I get all the problematic parts.

I've never seen it. Just another film about entitled rich kids. Boring!
My friends and I were absolute hoodlums in high school so it resonated with us.
