The only chance Haley has (despite her Anglicized name true maggats see her as a furriner and a woman, to boot) is if Rump dies and the USSC does Bush v Gore 2.0
"if Trump were abducted by aliens collecting the absolute worst specimen from every species" - perfect.
The man is a Rorschach test of stupidity, and the last eight years have felt like some Kafka-esque nightmare of being trapped in time, looking on horrified as so very many people willingly failed that test. I despise Nikki's politics, but I doubt she has a copy of "Mein Kampf" on her nightstand. Most Americans shared that sentiment at one point, but perhaps I misremember.
I HAVE to believe that Haley is only saying she’d pardon Trump in an effort to avoid alienating his idiot fanatics, and that when push comes to shove (it won’t ever, because she’ll never be President this time) she’d invent a reason to avoid pardoning him. Something about the myriad details of his crimes that came out during the trials, or “what’s best for healing.”
And I almost- ALMOST- feel sorry for her, because she’s stuck in a game that was doomed at the start, unless her goal is just name recognition for 2028; she’s young, and she could run on a Let's Put All This Behind Us and Elect A Woman President campaign then.
Trump is the scorpion on the back of the GOP frog. It’s going to take a long while for his poison to dissipate.
Wow it's going to be so awkward when she finally endorses President Klan Robe.
But yeah there's no runway left for her because she isn't a true believer. She tried to ride their racist nationalism tiger and she just didn't have the heart for it. The "bitter end" is a good phrase because it will be bitter, just like the rest of MAGA.
I like that you refer to Greenville as "beloved" even though you don't reside there anymore (as I understand it). I get disheartened when I see people online trashing towns and states because their governments are terrible. It's true that those governments are voted in by the populations but never is it by 100 percent. I often think of this quote from Medgar Evers. Staying in MS probably cost him his life but his conviction about his home state resonates with me because this is what we have to do to change things for the better in the so called "red" states. I realize that my little comment doesn't really have much to do with your piece but it's what I thought of first.
“Why do I live in Mississippi? The state is beautiful, it is home, I love it here. A man’s state is like his house. If it has defects, he tries to remedy them. That’s what my job is here. Why do I live in Mississippi? I live here to better it for my wife and kids, and for all the wives and all the kids who expect and deserve something better than what they are getting from life.”
The only possibility that Republicans nominate someone other than Trump is if he dies (and even then!) and I agree Haley is likely the last person to get the nomination, even if she comes in second with delegates. (I guess if Trump dies right now, she can hope to scoop up delegates in the remaining primaries, but a MAGA surrogate will likely run on the Trump ballot and continue to humiliate her in the remaining primaries). So if she thinks 2024 is her year, she's delusional.
2028 doesn't look more promising, either--perhaps if Trump loses again to Biden, some Republicans can finally get tired of the losing, but why they'd see Haley as their savior after sucking up to, then turning on Trump, while still getting shellacked in the 2024 primaries is anyone's guess. By that point they'd be likely to move on to someone new, without Trump's baggage and without already being targeted by MAGAs.
So that leaves the final possibility--keep running, stay in the news, so you get a better book deal or pundit job or speaking circuit gig when it's over.
It’s been amusing to see her running the Kasich 2016 playbook: “I’m losing the primary but the polls show I’d win the general election.” Democratic voters care about that more than Republicans. And unlike Kasich, Haley is going to lose her home state!
The thing about Haley being more electable in the general won't hold should she somehow get the nomination. Her pardoning trump will be a dealbreaker with all by magas, as will promising to sign a national abortion ban. In other words, once the electorate gets to know her, she won't look so good.
The level of denial among "normal" (i.e., pre-Trumpian) Republicans has been quite a sight to behold. I guess attention (and the dollars that may follow from that) via humiliation is still attention, so carry on she shall!
It’s quite the defiant concession speech, and she delivered it four days early to avoid the holiday rush. “Some of you — perhaps a few of you in the media — came here today to see if I’m dropping out of the race. Well, I’m not. Far from it.”
Like this is some kind of burn? Of course some came thinking you might drop out. Isn’t that why you gave this ridiculous unnecessary speech? It’s not like dropping out is out of the realm of possibility. But the truth is, outside of writing and article about it, literally nobody cares if you do or not. In everyone’s minds you’re already toast. What’s the difference?
I bet it's just some kayfabe to beat up on the media figures, since their brownshirts love that stuff. You know, "Lamestream media" and all, even though the ownership is totally on their side.

What she is actually doing is keeping the RNC from announcing he’s the nominee so they will be paying his legal bills going forward.
I believe as long as she's in it, they can't.
And her strategy may be to see if his money can hold out before he has to start selling buildings.
She should have been braver, earlier but she is trying to save the Republican party from itself.
not so sure. but i’ll read anyway. Everything you read here on my substack page should be free. thanks for reading.
"a rubio" ;)

LOL - nice burn.

Beautifully said. It’s why we march, strike and vote (blue): for the betterment of all.
In the meantime I’ll just continue to enjoy Hayley being a thorn in Chump’s side until he plucks her out.
