I am disappointed to hear about Talarico throwing trans people under the bus. You ask a good question, and the answer is that they are afraid to do so. Dems need to learn to throw repubs bigotries right back in their faces. Regarding trans people, Dems should have been asking repubs all along why they are so concerned about other peoples' private parts. However, Dems seem to accept the repub framing on issues. It looked like that Talarico was different. Sigh.
How can that hack on Fox "News" be so sure that families will turn their backs on Mayor Mamdani at the 9/11 memorial service? Have there been calls for them to do so? Or is she trying to plant the idea that they should do so? Do the 9/11 families watch Fox "News"? Probably some do, but not all. Some of them may have even voted for Mayor Mamdani and still have a high opinion of him!
He will be there, because he's the Mayor of NYC, and had nothing to do with the attack. For all I know, he, or someone he knows, lost a loved one that day due to the attack. An innocent person, that is, not one of the attackers.

At this point, I doubt many people are pissed off by what they say. They just roll their eyes and move on, if they even hear about it. Maybe they do gin up the audience, but they are preaching to the choir, which is shrinking.

Racism has become so normalized with this group that blatantly bigoted dog whistles don’t hit like they used to, we have heard them so often, so the ante needs to keep going up-thus, the Muslim mayor of a major city is told to stay home on the date of that city’s worst tragedy, he doesn’t belong, solely because of his name and religion. It’s not just racial, either-”socialism” has lost it’s bite from overuse so now everyone left of Attila the Hun is a communist. At some point, the returns of this one note investment diminished and so they are desperately ratcheting it up to George Wallace levels now.
I think the bigotry has gotten worse since then. There was a lot of anti Muslim bigotry at the time but most prominent conservatives took the effort to differentiate between regular Muslims (theres a billion of them worldwide) and terrorists. National Review even canned Ann Coulter for her comment that America should “kill their leaders, invade their countries and convert them to Christianity”—today that would get her a prime time slot at the GOP Convention. Bush, for all his faults, made sure to emphasize that this was a war on terror and that Islam was a religion of peace (try to imagine Trump saying that now).
The bigots are more open now, and more influential. To say you can’t show up at a 9/11 memorial simply because you’re Muslim is fucked up and even in late 2001 that would have been a jarring comment to hear even on Fox News.

And one they are really leaning into as Republican support crumbles heading to November, because all they have to offer is that they're still white.
