Maybe Jeffries needs to leave (the equivalent of) a severed horse’s head in Donny’s bed. It could be Stephen Miller’s! Naw, that’d have to be a severed horse’s ass.

Great piece, Stephen! Thank you.

More than anything else, the fecklessness of Schumer and Jeffries signals that even IF we are lucky enough to get the house and senate back, they will squander that win by going back to business as usual. There really IS no reason to take back congress if these two tools are leading the ship

I am NOT kidding when I say these two MUST go

Because if we DID take back congress, THEIR take would be: See? Democracy works! and use that as an excuse to do NOTHING with that rare moment. AND through asking for a sit down with Trump are signaling that they will be ceding power the goons across the aisle on motherfucking DAY ONE

Schumer and Jeffries are quite literally a danger to our party and to America. The next 'No Kings' march event needs to be about demanding their ouster and replacement as congressional top dogs. We do NOT have the fucking luxury of waiting for them to be voted out.

Well a lot of people ought to be happy they got savaged this way.

People probably ought to picket their offices and force them to resign. Let's see who goes for their awful positions. Hopefully they are not being used as ablative armor to soak up attacks from Dems and Republicans alike.

They are in an awful position, but as belfryo said, they built the trap themselves, and keep on falling into the same trap that they have built. Feckless describes them perfectly. Neither AOC nor Jasmine Crockett are feckless.

great point. Even tough they are theoretically the 'victims' in this AI thing, It only happened because they not only fell into Trump's trap, they fucking BUILT THE TRAP themselves.

Something else about Jeffries that tells me that he's weak - when he said that he looked forward to working with trump to avoid a shutdown. Holy Christ on a cracker, man! If you are going to cling to bipartisanship shit because your paid political consultants (are they as chickenshit as you, or are they repubs, or are they both?) tell you to do so, at least come from a position of STRENGTH. Say that you look forward to trump working with YOU!

Think how fake that sounds. The guy is openly moving him in public. How can Jeffries not see how crazy HE looks to be talking about working with that maniac?

It could be that Jeffries is taking his paid political consultants' advice, which is clearly very poor advice, and fails to meet the moment, or he's very weak, or both. I vote for both. To say the least, he's been a disappointment. Maybe he can take some tips from Charlie Chaplin in this speech from "The Great Dictator"

Amazing isn't it, that everything that Chaplain said 85 years ago could be so accurate and relevant to our struggle today?

Either AOC or Jasmine Crockett would make a much better speaker and both those women know how to fight. But they aren't darlings of Pelosi and all the third way, centrist dems.

Either AOC or Ms. Crockett would be great. But first, Congressional Dems would have to get over their racism and sexism (i.e., Fear of Women of Color), and I’m not holding my breath on that one.

Say what you will about the godalmighty Nancy Pelosi, but I will never forget how she ran the party LIKE A BOSS during her tenure as House Speaker. And she’ll always be a hero to me for assuming the role of Commander in Chief on January 6, helping to save the US Capitol building in the process, and afterward, at around 4:00 am, securing the ratification of Joe Biden’s presidency. Now THAT’s leadership, as Stephen points out, and thanks again, Stephen, for including that great photo of Queen Pelosi’s departure after she had kicked Donny’s ass that time. ❤️

Jeffries and the rest of the middle of the road crowd of Democrats--let's just call them The Middlers from now on--think that if they carry on as if they were the adults in the room that the country will recognize it and support them. They do not seem to understand that this is not a gentle public debate over policy, this is a war for attention, and a time to rally the team through passion and authenticity.

The policy is deadly important, of course, but much more significant is the war to defend reality, and the war to move the battleship of public opinion to defeat this existential threat. They should be standing in front of a camera each and every day to shout out the truth, that a malicious ghoul and his rapacious followers are running the government and they must be met with resistance at every turn. When they show you no respect, that's when you sneer at them and humiliate them right back directly. When they lie, you denounce that lie. If you want the public to follow, you must lead the charge.

Sometimes being the adult in the room is mocking the malicious ghoul, and refusing to be used by them.

Ask yourself—between Trump and Jeffries, who is coming across as more honest here? Liberals scoff at the question because of course Trump is a constant liar, but think of “honesty” as authenticity—Trump obviously thinks little of Jeffries and shows it, while Jeffries is either catatonic or he thinks Trump is a nasty gross bag of shit yet keeps treating him like a real person.

Jeffries would become a national hero if he just said “I tried talking to Trump but his dementia got way too bad, maybe all the STDs he got from raping children makes it hard for his brain to function. Anyway, he’s the reason everyone is about to lose health care.”

Oh, the so called city fathers would tug at their beards, but fuck it—that’d at long last be some authenticity and there’d be no down side because Trump is already scumming out. Treat him like trash or you’re the one who will look fake and dishonest.

Crockett and AOC would have called out Trump for the 2028 hats, saying it was offensive and childish, etc. Jeffries just made a weak joke in the moment about Trump 2028 stepping on Vance’s ambition (ignoring the illegality!).

Trump is afraid of people , especially women, who stand up to him. Yet, Dem leaders keep trying to engage him as if he’s normal.
