There’s definitely something wrong with our vetting. Collectively we liberals are like the Hallmark movie heroine who keeps picking bad men (ok I never watched Hallmark movies so I’m just assuming that is what they feature). Fetterman, Sinema, etc—and don’t forget that brief period when Michael Avennatti and Robert Mueller were liberal darlings (and at first many liberals assumed Merrick Garland would be out for blood in revenge for McConnell never giving him a SCOTUS vote).
At the rate we’re going we may nominate David Berkowitz for 2028 because he does great social media posts.
Pardon my lack of eloquence, but ew, what the fuck:
“It’s like all these women are back in high school. We’re all in our pajamas, eating ice cream in bed, and he’s in a sharp suit, looking clean,” the 40-something Reese said of the third-term Democrat’s televised briefings.
Which is why I'm not drooling all over Gavin Newsom.
He's been a decent to slightly good governor, but he has a lot of faults and he seems far too willing to do or say whatever focus groups and consultants tell him to do and say to get his name in the press and align with poll numbers.
Gotta admit, politics aside I find both of them physically attractive. But that’s politics aside—what I want in a political leader applies regardless of what they look like.
And I guess it shows Trump fans must be able to see past physical appearances because he is one physically repulsive person.
Cuomo had for years enabled a partial coup of the New York State government by repeatedly supporting “centrists” democrats who caucused with Republicans. Better to protect the interests of money than allow for one of the most left leaning states to consider paying for nice things. He was terrible with union rights and he cut crucial funding to schools. Oh also, his sex pest allegations dated far prior to 2020.
He was a terrible Democrat for years, and it’s partially his last name and because this party enables terrible democrats repeatedly rather than punishing them that his career lasted as long as it did.
It may be because many liberals really like charisma, and they like to hear someone saying pretty words. Pretty words feel good. And this is why there are fairly frequently Democrats who say Pretty Words What Democrats Like and get into office...and then something happens. You know, your Kyrsten Sinemas (former Green Party activist), your John Fettermans, your Tricia Cothams.
It is also a great place for expressing betrayal when the inevitable feet of clay (or limitations) happen. The very effects of pay-go in Congress have waylaid many a Democratic politician after all. This is of course going to happen for a lot of people. And this is even before we get to other effects like the Abrams Paradox.
Dems really need to run perfect campaigns and they need to sustain the energy against all odds.
You didn't mention him, but as I read your article (excellent as always), I thought of Gavin Newsom. He's been trolling trump like crazy on Twitter, and I love that, and he does seem determined to negate the Texas gerrymander. Those are good things, but he does have that podcast, and has cozied up to the maga guests that he's had on the show. Because of the former, it seems that many Dems are falling in love again, while forgetting the latter. Is this a warning?
The answer may be to not fall in love, but like pols when they do the right thing, and call them out when they don't.
This is why I keep yelling about where the Internet Faves are in setting up their 2028 run and why they're ceding the airwaves to Gavin Newsom. Because what's going to happen is, if he's the only one putting himself out there then he's going to get a clear lead. Then we're going to get way-too-late, "Oh it's a coronation" "Oh the DNC picked him" "Oh the centrists are forcing him down our throats" and then all of a sudden remember all the things people are angry at him about, when it's too late for a viable challenger.
It's like, I'm not looking to marry someone in office, I'm looking for them to do a JOB. Liberals often forget about the job, they want someone to say the Pretty Words and remain pure. But at the same time, Newsom throwing trans folk under the bus, the cuddling with the Charlie Kirks of the world, it worries me. There is a huge perverse incentive if Newsom ends up winning by default.
The perverse incentives about throwing away the legislation of the Biden Admin weren't heeded. Will this warning be? Or are we going to end up with people flaying Newsom for clout much like people did to Hillary Clinton?
You said it better than I was going to say it. I can support Newsom's trolling while still knowing I won't trust him to defend the people of this nation. He is bought and paid for and happens to be good at this thing he's doing right now. He's also fully in line with the crminalization of homelessness, so he can go fuck himself, too.
People are complex. I don't reach for a shovel when I need a saw. He's good at this thing and should go on doing it.
To be fair, Fetterman pretended to be a progressive. Not that he was ever attractive to me physically but I'll fall for that every time. Like Lucy with the football, I guess.
The cycle seems to repeat right now with Newsome and Buttigieg. Fawning over them saying something against the orange one but then conveniently ignoring both of them throwing trans and other marginalized people under the bus.
Yeah I have no patience for blaming minorities for the problems of the masses. They all ate up that "the us / them ad tanked Harris" b.s. when what happened was she almost saved the ship that was run aground by the captain.
The fact that we are in a country where Andrew Cuomo was called the “Lov Gov” should be all you need to know that we are in the grossest timeline.
Like others, I immediately thought of Gavin Newsom. We're already seeing Newsom posts showing this problem, again! Focus on doctrine and results!

so gross. 🤮🤦🏽♀️💩
So gross. Cool dude in a loose mood... Nope. 🙅♀️

I’ll drool all over him. I’d vote for Newsom for president just for his trolling of The Thing alone.
Right?! Killing it right now, he is.
I couldn’t stop laughing last night😂
“I can’t recall many articles about men of any age fawning over Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jasmine Crockett”
Well, just because I don’t write about it…
Truly, while these two women are obviously beautiful; it is their fire, determination, tenacity and intelligence that makes me love them.
Gotta admit, politics aside I find both of them physically attractive. But that’s politics aside—what I want in a political leader applies regardless of what they look like.

Of course, my point exactly. They’re fighters.

Ewwww. Sexual predators and bullies are as attractive as serial murderers. I’m liberal as hell. No. Thank. You!

Ah I'm more of a Peter Scalari girl myself, having seen him first on Bosom Buddies.
I bet he looked great in a hoodie, he could make anything work.
Puberty was a confusing time.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you. I am not always sure that I explain things well.
I find you to be insightful.
Blushing….

So many vomit emojis for this press coverage... ewwww.
