Comets part of a long line of establishment fools who should have brought down the hammer on Trump when they had the chance but thought it was too outlandish for him to win and well, here we are now. It’s appalling that Trump’s goons are using law fare against him, because (1) this will chill a lot of lower level people who unlike Comey dint have the fame and money to afford defending themselves and so will comply in advance, (2) Trump thugs like Halligan will keep carrying out their orders because why not? It’s not like they have reason to expect consequences if Democrats ever take power again, they are the party of letting bygones be gone, and (3) no one is learning any lesson from all of this and this is why it’s only getting worse.

Oh no. I think he wanted him to win.

Comey is a conservative.

While he didn't like Trump, he is one of those types who would have assumed that the "adults in the room" would have handled him.

Lots of rank and file conservatives just kind of shuffled around, doing their little bit to tip the scale for Trump. Not following up on Russian espionage. Chasing Clinton BS, especially if it pertained to Hillary and not Bill. Etc.

If there's any squirrelly business, Bill might have pulled it, but Hillary is pretty clean.

This is the US history lesson that I didn't realize I needed when I woke up this morning. Thanks for being awesome.

Didn't know that Comey was the one who sent Martha Stewart to prison. Man, talk about no one to root for.

Back to the present: I am only appalled by Trump's action in the abstract, as an example of his ridiculous use of the government to dish out payback for slights. I confess that I have the same amount of sympathy for Comey now as I did for Stewart them, which is to say, none.

P.S. I won't argue about whether Stewart deserved what she got or not. I just really could not stand her back then, and I didn't care one whit if she did a short bit in Club Fed.

She was just the lowest priority target inside trader you could have possibly gone for. A serious nobody in terms of impact.

We had much more important players he should have gone for.

Love this!

I've been thinking a lot about Martha Stewart and how she was railroaded by Inspector Javert. Her "lying under oath" was just as bogus as Comey's current indictment.

And, is there a pattern to Comey's actions - something about his not liking powerful women?

No fan of what Comey did but I read his book and he actually came across as a sincere and dedicated to the law. And yeah. He fucked hp Hills chances and here we are. I can’t help but think that it’s taken him this long just to figure out how absolutely short sighted that was.

That notwithstanding these charges are bullshit and I hope that the courts see that. We cannot let them win the case because it’s just a matter of time before more start.

He thinks he's sincere and dedicated to the law.

He's a dipshit. Like many conservatives, he can't see his own bias at all.

A lot of chefs own that stew though. Comey only had direct involvement in Hillary’s investigation because Obama (trying to win credibility points, I guess) took her bullshit scandal seriously enough to put his AG Loretta Lynch on it, then she and that idiot asshole Bill Clinton both thought a private conversation on an airport tarmac in middle of the investigation was a good idea, so Lynch recused herself and the turd landed on Comey who like all the other idiots assumed Hillary had the election in the bag and acted accordingly.

And no one learned shit since then.

It's extremely disturbing and dangerous seeing this happen, even to someone as self-important as Comey. I bet he's regretting how he broke procedure to knife Hillary Clinton. Guess he thought he was going to be shown to be a hero by Maladministration 1.0.

But this is basically amounting to a bill of attainder and that should give us pause.

Trump's persecution of Comey is corrupt, baseless, incredibly personal, and stupid. Do I think Comey is an arrogant, conceited, self-centered, hypocritical ass? Yes. Do I think he contributed to Mrs. Clinton's loss in 2016? Yes. Do I think I want Trump and Halligan to fail miserably in their prosecution of him, because if they succeed, it's bad for the United States? YES!!!

Yup.

Do I think he's screwed unless the juries he gets have sense? (Like the sandwich prosecutions for Big Balls)

Yup.

I didn't realize that Comey was the one who persecuted Martha Stewart, and yes, that isn't a typo, I mean he persecuted her. However, she rose above it. It's wrong what trump is doing, but I can't feel sorry for Comey. He obeyed in advance and is reaping what he has sown.

The problem about the Feds (and Comey) going after Martha Stewart is that there are thousands of cases of exactly what she did that have gone unprosecuted. She was chosen for prosecution because she was high profile, and an easy target. Comey got on his high horse against her to make a public case, which is exactly what he did to the email lady. Now he is being made a public case and the irony is off the charts. Had he stayed in the background and gone after the worst of the worst as he should have done, he would not now be such an easy target.

Tom Wolfe in Bonfire of the Vanities described the sort of person Comey likes to persecute (prosecute) as “The Great White Defendant” ( a reference to the rare white whale in Moby Dick).

He’s Captain Ahab, obsessed with women who get out of their place and need to be taken down a peg. Martha Stewart, Hillary Clinton, I’m not a huge fan of either, but it’s hard to miss, Comey has a type.

Yup. He sucks.

And still maintains he wouldn't do anything different, because he's a **moron.**

So he better pray he gets a jury with sense. I'm not going to get all worked up on his behalf. He made his bed.

I'm definitely not going to be called for his jury panel, that's for sure.

Not in the right jurisdiction.

If I was, I'd roll my eyes, flip him off, and save his moron ass.

Then flip him off again and give him a piece of my mind while reading the jury decision.

"We the jury find him not guilty, but a stupid mother****....🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬" Etc.

I find myself very conflicted by this. Part of me says, Comey gets what he gets...you buy the ticket you take the ride. But the charges are absolute bullshit and I can't imagine a jury is going to find this holds water at all. It's a nakedly corrupt and political act.

The Stupidest Time Line strikes again! The Mad King has somehow so outraged the universe that the contemptable James Comey has actually managed to be made a relatively sympathetic figure in the tragic fall of America from a nation of laws to Donnie the Demented's Great Big Calvinball Arena, where nothing makes any sense and the only actual law is The King Is Always Right, which law the entire Federal government from the once DO no more J to the Mad King's Bodyguard (formerly known as the US military) makes its No 1 job to enforce. The once mighty US government is becoming the caretaker of Donnie Two Scoop's frail ego, which has the worst case of haemophilia anyone ever heard of. The WATB Fuhrer must be kept wrapped in cotton wool to prevent any injury to His easily bruised sensibilities, because you know how he gets when some lackey fails to correctly infer their marching orders from Captain Crazypants' grunts, farts and fact free tirades on the evergreen subject of His Unquestionable, Unbelievable Greatness and his constant betrayals by the insufficiently servile.
