Schumer and Jeffries' failure to endorse Mamdani actually HELPED him I think. Ya kinda wouldn't WANT their endorsements I'd think. Kinda gross

If I still lived in NYC I’d sure as hell vote for Mamdani. He’s smart, likable and progressive which is exactly what people want and need. Also from all the snippets of the debates, Cuomo came across as a smug lying sex pest who STILL refuses to accept responsibility for his actions.

I read the profile of Zohran in NY Times Sunday magazine and he came across very well. I especially like that he reaches out to marginalized minority groups fully understanding that not everyone I an old white man.

It's looking like billionaires can't always buy their pet politicians high office. Maybe a better use of their money would be paying higher taxes, which they can afford, and would not miss the money, so that everyone in the country would have access to affordable health care, have a decent and safe place to live, and enough food to eat to stay healthy.

Well the job is only half done with Mamdani so NYC voters need to remember to finish the job and vote for him in the general. I bet if he wins decisively that would likely encourage more people to follow his lead.

Of course he also has Murc's Law over his head so whatever his proposals he needs to knock them out of the park and allay whatever FUD concerns get thrown up by media and other neer'do'wells.

"But More Integrity Than Andrew Cuomo, Most Of Democratic Leadership"

...which, Frankly speaking, isn't difficult to do.

It's funny how the most insane people in America keep telling us a calm, collected, intelligent and well spoken guy like Zohran Mamdani, who can clearly articulate sensible ideas that can appeal to most Americans, is somehow "extreme" and "deranged," all while a certifiable nutcase playing king is the highest elected official in the country.

America has long lost the plot.

Ah, the good old 'they like him because he's good looking and I'm intimidating" line of flawed reasoning. Maybe Cuomo will mature past middle school mentality some day.

But honestly, "Desperate Billionaires" should be your scripted reality show. Shots of well heeled white dudes in the back of their limo wondering why it isn't going anywhere, while the camera pans to the driver's seat- empty. Then the door, bereft of doormen. Their pharmacy not answering the phone when they call to ask why their skinny-jab hasn't been delivered....beds unmade, and no one skulking around to call them "sir" and "miss."

Let me know if you want a theme song written.

I really don’t get the resistance to Mamdani among many Democrats. To the extent his policy ideas are bad, they’re unlikely to be implemented and even if they were, NYC already is the product of so many bad policies I don’t see how anyone would notice.

So it comes down to this phony antisemitism shit, that most Jews aren’t buying because they know the moment a bad faith right winger pretends to care about Jews, that’s when you better watch out. The ADL in its new phase of “fascists are ok so long as they hate Arabs, yes this is a well thought out position, why do you keep asking me that?” may be smearing him because he’s Muslim and pro-Palestine but any Democrats dumb enough to fall for that shit are in no position to fight for this country.

Just curious, which of his policies are bad?

Personally I’m not a fan of his rent control policies—NYC needs a massive increase in supply, otherwise we’re just fighting over a too small pie. But it doesn’t really bother me because I dint think it makes much difference in NYC at this point—there are too many reasons they don’t increase supply that goes well beyond a mayor’s power. So if I was a NYC voter that wouldn’t keep me from voting for him.

My point though is that even if some Democrats oppose him on policy, his policies aren’t really extreme, and for the most part aren’t likely to happen because of budget constraints and various other stakeholders opposing them, so why is that any reason to kneecap your party’s own nominee? So I think they’re basing this on the “antisemitism” smear which is complete foul nonsense. Most Jews see through it!

I think he’ll win, and most importantly he’s going to be on the line trying to defend his city against Trump (who is definitely gunning for him) and the last thing we need is Democrats hedging on this.

Thanks for that. I’m on the west coast and I mostly hear about free buses and community grocery stores which sound fantastic.

Yeah, free buses especially—they at least had them for some lines in Baltimore when I lived there and they were great.

These are the same Democrats who still think they can "ride it out" while Trump destroys (quite literally) democracy.

They are fucking cowards.

It's the money. They cater to those who fund super pacs, not the voters. And billionaires and corporations get so itchy when someone mentions doing anything for anyone.

It’s crazy. All the money in the world won’t insulate you from voters. Just ask Presidents Hillary and Kamala—no lack of money on their campaigns and here we are.

Well, almost everybody has more integrity than Andrew Cuomo and Hakeem Jeffries, so that's not the flex it could be.

Expand full comment
SethTriggs's avatar

Well you know, if people feel Hakeem Jeffries has no integrity (we know this about Cuomo, who has no elected position now), all Democratic House Representatives are up for election in 2026. So if a challenger actually stands up and just savages Jeffries every day, says Jeffries is weak, and all of that, you can actually get rid of him. (It's easy to get rid of Democrats)

The one and the same!

I don't know much about Jeffries, but he certainly isn't rising to this moment, he is no leader.
